The Midlands Top 500 Companies, a new Chief Executive at Manchester City Council and a
00:04
Gregg's Champagne Bar feature in today's Business Briefing.
00:13
So we've recently revealed our annual ranking of the top 500 companies in the Midlands.
00:17
That's something we put together using a, by measuring companies based on a combination
00:22
of their turnover and their profitability. So first of all we take the top 1,000 companies
00:26
in the region, we rank them by turnover and then we rank them again by profit and that
00:31
gives us the final figure for the top 500 companies.
00:35
Now there's a new name at the top of the list for this year, we've got Jaguar Land Rover,
00:40
the automotive giant, they've taken top spot now. Next who were in top spot last year,
00:46
they're back down to second. Along with the company's names we've also got some various
00:52
statistics about the list and this year we can tell you that the profit, pre-tax profit
00:57
total for the 500 companies on the list has grown by 26% to £12.97 billion. Now throughout
01:04
the next few days we'll be taking a look at some of the other names in the list in both
01:08
our East and West Midlands newsletters and if you want to read the full top 500 you can
01:13
find that in the November edition of the Midlands Business Insider which is available now.
01:19
Now Jenna I believe you've got some big news from where we are in Manchester?
01:22
I do indeed, so a new Chief Executive Designate has been appointed at Manchester City Council.
01:28
After a rigorous recruitment process Tom Stannard will now assume the role and he will actually
01:33
be the third Chief Executive to take the reins in more than a quarter of a century. So he
01:39
has more than 27 years of experience within local government including senior posts in
01:44
Oldham, Wakefield, Blackburn with Darwin and London Boroughs. Tom's most recent role actually
01:50
was in our neighbour Salford, so Salford City Council where he has been for the past
01:56
four years. So Tom is expected to assume the role in the new year and Eamon Boylan will
02:03
remain in the post as the Interim Chief Executive until then.
02:09
Well in our Southeasterners newsletter today we've got news of a significant property
02:13
deal with the announcement that a Grade 2 listed office building in Windsor has changed
02:17
hands. So the RO Group has completed the sale of Admiral House to a private buyer for
02:25
an undisclosed sum. The property itself has an interesting history, it's a former Edwardian
02:30
police station which has been transformed by the RO Group into a multi-tenanted office
02:34
space. All the building is currently fully occupied, so that's just under 9,000 square
02:41
foot space over three floors and there's a range of tenants in there at the moment.
02:45
The RO Group has completed a four-week refurbishment under their ownership and that's included
02:50
improvements to the infrastructure and to its ESG credentials, so a really great deal for them.
02:55
Great, well some more exciting news. In the North East this time, our beloved Greggs has
03:04
teamed up with the department store Fenwick in Newcastle to launch its very first Champagne
03:09
Bar. Are you a fan of Champagne?
03:11
I am, I'm a fan of Champagne and a fan of Greggs, so a great venue for me.
03:15
The bar will have a variety of drinks available, ranging from a £10 glass of Prosecco to a £75
03:21
glass of Crystal Champagne. The menu will also feature signature cocktails and sweet treats
03:27
and the menu is inspired by a 1920s Paris. The bar is opening in Fenwick from 24 October and
03:34
it will run until New Year's Eve. To hear more about the stories that we spoke about today,
03:42
you can find them all on insidermedia.com,
