It's really fun when you know that you can help others, especially young people.
00:05
Because there's a dance production and workshop
00:08
that's for children and neurodivergent individuals
00:12
started by a former actress and TV personality, Princess Ryan.
00:16
And if there's one, we can include her.
00:18
Princess Ryan is the founder and creator of Kids' Groove
00:21
and the 2024 Model Mom Universe.
00:25
Queen is also an advocate and a chef.
00:28
Thank you for joining us today. Good morning, Princess.
00:30
Good morning, guys. Thank you so much for having me here.
00:33
What a beautiful studio.
00:35
Thank you. And very beautiful as well, as always, Princess Ryan.
00:39
And she has a beautiful advocacy.
00:41
Yes, of course.
00:42
Princess, you're a former actress and model
00:45
and you stepped away from the limelight and moved to another country.
00:48
So, tell us how this advocacy started.
00:52
What's the inspiration?
00:54
So, part of the inspiration is my love for dancing and working with children.
01:00
And since I was in the showbiz industry before,
01:03
I was part of Star Magic, Batch 13, ABS-CBN, TV5.
01:08
What I learned there and how they empowered me
01:11
through the dance workshops, acting, singing,
01:14
I basically used that as a blueprint to have my own brand,
01:20
which was created when I was in California.
01:23
So, I stayed there for 13 years. This is my first year back.
01:28
Go ahead.
01:28
This is my first year back here in the Philippines
01:32
and I'm just really, really happy that I'm able to spread the awareness
01:36
and the inclusion for my program.
01:40
And, of course, to you guys for spreading the word also.
01:43
Thank you so much.
01:43
So, you're helping neurodivergent kids.
01:46
Yes.
01:47
Okay. Why did you choose this advocacy?
01:51
What pushed you to help these neurodivergent kids?
01:56
So, when this community came to me,
02:00
they were actually the ones who found me.
02:02
Okay.
02:02
So, in the States, somebody called me to choreograph
02:06
a flash mob dance production for World Down Syndrome Day.
02:11
Okay.
02:11
So, that was my first introduction to the neurodivergent community.
02:15
And I saw that, wow, these kids are so talented.
02:20
That's when I decided to make my brand inclusive.
02:23
So, it's open for children with and without special needs
02:27
or what we call them is neurodivergent people.
02:30
Okay.
02:31
So, it started in America.
02:33
So, when did it start?
02:34
Or did you bring your advocacy here in the Philippines?
02:36
And here in the workshop, is there a different style or genre of dance?
02:41
And aside from the dance workshop, are you offering anything else?
02:45
Really good question.
02:46
So, in our workshop, what we do is we move, create, and express.
02:52
Those are our three slogans.
02:54
So, any genre, but I just want the kids to really move their bodies,
03:00
find their groove, but also learn how to follow choreography.
03:03
So, those are the two main things that we teach.
03:06
And in the States, it was founded in 2018.
03:10
And now, we've been here in the Philippines for one year.
03:13
We celebrate, we're partnered with two different malls
03:17
that they can find out where it is on our social media, in the kids' group.
03:22
But we also partner with businesses and, you know,
03:26
who want to be part of the neurodivergent community
03:29
or they want people to know that,
03:31
you know what, we support neurodivergent community also.
03:35
My program here is free, by the way.
03:38
It's free.
03:39
It's free.
03:39
It's a free dance workshop program, which is the very first of its kind here in the Philippines.
03:46
And how we get funding is through our merchandise.
03:49
If people want to support, the kids want to wear the kids' group merch.
03:53
And, of course, through partnerships, which we are very proud to say that
03:58
The Park Foundation, which is a non-profit organization,
04:02
they really focus on harnessing the performing arts, the talents of the youth.
04:09
So now, they're very happy that, with partnership with kids' group,
04:13
they're also using that platform, their foundation,
04:17
to be a platform for neurodivergent people.
04:19
Okay.
04:19
Do you have scheduled workshops?
04:22
Because there might be people who want to join your free classes and workshops.
04:26
Where can they see your schedules?
04:28
And how frequent do you do this workshop, Princess?
04:31
So right now, we do it twice a week because we have two locations now.
04:35
So one mall is in SM Tansa in Cavite.
04:39
That's every Monday, 3 to 5 p.m.
04:41
And the other one is Tansa Mall in Ertiga, in Miralco Ave.
04:46
Every Thursday, same time, 3 to 5 p.m.
04:50
And I'm personally the one teaching the kids.
04:53
And if I'm not available because I'm doing guestings or I'm doing a tour,
04:57
bringing kids' group to other places in the Philippines,
05:01
I have my advocates also who are there to teach the kids.
05:07
Yes.
05:08
How is the reception of the people?
05:10
How many students?
05:11
Can we see the trend?
05:13
There are so many.
05:14
Yes, our ambassadors here are more than 50 plus.
05:19
We call them our ambassadors because they are advocating for themselves, right?
05:24
Yeah, they're really increasing.
05:26
And the more we get exposure, we get to talk about it like this,
05:30
I'm sure more people will want to join.
05:32
So please join Kids' Groove.
05:35
It's a free dance workshop program here.
05:37
And follow Kids' Groove on Instagram and Facebook so you will know more about it.
05:42
But we have this really, really big event this coming November 28 in Maybank Theater.
05:48
This is in partnership with Park Foundation and Global Tronics.
05:52
So this is going to be like a Thanksgiving event, free event.
05:57
So everybody is invited.
05:59
Please bring your families and friends.
06:01
And if you're a neurodivergent individual, reach out to us so you can have a chance to be on stage
06:08
and be part of that event this November 28 in Maybank Theater.
06:13
How can they reach out to you, Princess Ryan?
06:15
What is your social media?
06:16
So my personal Instagram is thisisprincessryan.
06:22
And then you can see the links there for Kids' Groove and my other brand called Maganda Forever,
06:27
which is about women who have advocacy also and promoting anything that they want to advocate.
06:34
Okay.
06:35
We can feel that you really treasure this advocacy.
06:39
Very exciting.
06:39
It's very heartwarming because we're talking about kids.
06:42
And we're giving them a safe space for them to express themselves.
06:46
I wonder, what is your goal with this brand, this Kids' Groove?
06:53
Because it's quite a new organization, this brand, right?
06:58
You said that you'll only be in the Philippines for one year.
07:01
But in the future, what do you see and dream for this?
07:04
Well, my dream is to really encourage people to not be afraid to show or to advocate that they're neurodivergent.
07:13
So I just wanted to share that I'm also part of that community.
07:17
I myself am a neurodivergent person because I am what they call an HSP,
07:22
which stands for highly sensitive person.
07:25
So that's why my empathy is a little bit more than a person who is not an HSP.
07:31
And again, if you are a neurodivergent individual,
07:35
which is if you're under that umbrella that you have ADHD, HSP, Down Syndrome, Autism,
07:42
even Bipolar and Tourette Syndrome, and even Cerebral Palsy,
07:46
you are a neurodivergent individual.
07:48
And some of us do not look like it, like physically, hindi siya nakikita.
07:54
But being a neurodivergent person, it just means you think differently from everybody else.
08:00
You process information in a unique way, which is why a lot of us are in the creative industry,
08:07
which is why a lot of us are entrepreneurs because we think outside of the box.
08:12
So I want that word neurodivergent or neurodiversity to really be like everybody knows about it,
08:20
everybody is aware about it, and everybody is proud to be called a neurodivergent individual.
08:28
And hindi na siya taboo or it's not something that we're kind of embarrassed to admit
08:34
because it's a strength to be different, to think differently from everybody else.
08:39
There's nothing wrong with that.
08:41
It's a beautiful story, you know.
08:43
Thank you, thank you very much for sharing your story and advocacy.
08:46
Kita sa Rise and Shine Pilipinas.
08:48
At kaisa po ninyo kami sa inyo pong advocacy nga ito.
08:51
Thank you, Princess Ryan. Mabuhay ka.
