00:00I didn't find myself angry.

00:03I wanted them to win. I believed they were going to win.

00:04I certainly didn't think Scuba was going to give up a grand slam.

00:07That wasn't on my bingo card.

00:09I'm proud of this team.

00:11As I look back on this season, I'm proud that this team fought and scratched and clawed

00:15and gave us a taste. Gave us a baseball team to believe in again.

00:19No question that you're proud of this team.

00:22And the fact that

00:26accomplished so much. They overachieved.

00:30They did something that's only happened once in the history of baseball.

00:34Coming back from where they were. In the depths.

00:38So far behind.

00:40With so little time left.

00:42And we laughed

00:44when Tom brought up, and Tom, I don't remember the exact numbers, but they were

00:48going to have to go

00:5033 and 11 is what they went.

00:54And it was

00:58That we had mentioned at the.

01:01we speculated like August 27th, that they would need to go 33 and 11 to get to 88 wins.

01:10And we all laughed.

01:11And then they went 31 and 11 and got the 86 wins and then called off the dogs and

01:14clinched.

01:15I mean, it was

01:16we brought up the math and we just said the math

01:19is

01:20you're asking for a miracle.

01:21Well, you're asking for a miracle because it wasn't just what the Tigers had to do,

01:25but you needed to continue to have a Minnesota Twins collapse.

01:29Both had to happen at the same time and they did

01:32and they gave us

01:34so much to cheer about

01:37and so many moments

01:42when Kerry Carpenter hit the home run?

01:47memories like that happened both good and bad.

01:50Jim, what were you doing when Tarek Skubel gave up the Grand Slam?

01:54Sweating through every pore in my body because the bases were loaded and he had

01:57already hit Jose Ramirez.

01:58I mean, that's the feeling but what were you doing?

02:01Yeah, and so that that's it's kind of one of those moments where I was listening

02:04to Dan Dickerson.

02:05I was painting the front of my house

02:07and I'm up on a 20-foot ladder

02:10and all of a sudden Skubel gives up a Grand Slam and I'm it was like

02:14my body just it was inaudible

02:17and a visual sigh of

02:20disbelief.

02:21I mean my instant reaction is that that's all like it's over now.

02:24They they've still fought true to this team.

02:26They still scratched across across a couple more runs in the game.

02:29But like you're not recovering from

02:32your best pitcher your one anchor

02:34giving up a home run that scores four runs

02:38and it really showed that this team had no margin for error.

02:40I mean the way they did this was on the thinnest

02:44of balance beams.

02:45So they had no margin for error couldn't step off up

02:48pitch gets hung over the heart of the plate and it's over.

02:51I mean, there's a bloop infield single in that inning.

02:53Their margin was so thin

02:56and we didn't think it was possible with Skubel on the mound

02:59and I'm sure we'll take a bunch of calls

03:24But you got a two-two tie and you're going to Cleveland with Skubel on the mound.

03:29I will never forget the moment when Skubel gave up the Grand Slam and it's

03:34it's Skubel had an amazing season.

03:37He's going to be the Cy Young Award winner and he had 13 scoreless innings

03:42before he even took the mound in Cleveland for the second time.

03:46He was phenomenal.

03:49And I just didn't see that

03:52as

03:52it was unwavering the faith that I had in him

03:55and still have in him.

03:56Yeah, and they had earned a level of trust

04:00maybe a level of

04:01confidence

04:03because they've been the best team in baseball baseball for two months.

04:06And I didn't think that Skubel of all people would be the guy giving up a

04:10Grand Slam in the do-or-die elimination game.
