So you'll be aware that as of the 4th of November, Shropshire Council will be introducing
00:08
a booking system for all of our household recycling centres, or HRCs, five of them across
00:13
the county. So you might ask, how will introducing a booking system save the council money? Well,
00:20
four of our five household recycling centres are in the periphery or the border areas of
00:25
the county, and we are receiving a lot of waste from people from outside of Shropshire.
00:30
Now we are welcoming people from Telford, New Regan, but we have got people coming from
00:34
Wales, Cheshire and Staffordshire who are using our system, and that is costing the
00:39
council money, because it's about £100 per tonne or thereabouts, in order to process
00:44
that waste, and we're processing hundreds of tonnes of that waste. We also receive a
00:49
lot of trade waste from small and medium enterprises. Again, the booking system will deter that,
00:54
so those people from those businesses have to pay for their waste to be processed the
00:58
way they should. We'll increase the recycling. The operatives of the sites will be able to
01:03
help and give advice on recycling. Also, it will reduce congestion, making your experience
01:08
at the household recycling centre much better. It's free. It's open to all Shropshire residents,
01:13
including Telford, New Regan. All five household recycling centres will stay open seven days
01:19
a week, or through until March. That's courtesy of Theolia, who funded that day we were going
01:24
to close. How are you going to book it? Well, preferably, you book it online, but if you
01:29
can't book online, the phone number is on this. Get your phone number, and your booking
01:33
system will be put in place. Just make a booking, just the way you would book a haircut, book
01:37
a restaurant, anything like that. It's quite simple. More details will be available in
01:43
the near future.
