Hi, my name is Chris Cordner and I'm a journalist specialising in nostalgia for the Sutherland Echo.
00:07
Today I'm going to be out and about recording from my brand new way of sharing nostalgia with people on Wearside.
00:16
I'm launching a new podcast which will be eight episodes of reflections from the very people who grew up in God's own country.
00:27
From the music they listened to, to the local delicacies they ate, the schools they went to. Let's get out and about.
00:36
Memories of Sutherland's past are vital because they give us a link to how our town looked and how that shapes our future.
00:45
Let's go and interview the first person.
00:48
I was a visitor to the Empire in 1963, I think it would have been, when the Beatles came.
00:53
The Beatles, yeah. Well, they were famous for the kids. To me, the Beatles... I went there because, as I said, I got in for nothing.
01:03
It was free because my mother just opened the door and I was in.
01:08
The Beatles, to me, were just a boy band and I just went to see what all the carry-on was about.
01:14
But I could never get away with it.
01:16
That's that done. I'm proud to say that my passion for reporting is as strong as ever.
01:23
And nostalgia matters, I think. Journalism matters.
