Hey everyone, this is Ms. Emily from MotionTutor.com.
00:05
In this lesson, I am going to make the number 5 using this 5 frame and 2 different color
00:16
counters.
00:17
I have some red blocks and I have some blue blocks and I will be using these as counters
00:23
to fill this 5 frame.
00:26
And I will mix them together and show you the different ways we can make a 5 by using
00:34
these 2 colors at the same time.
00:37
I'll show you what I mean.
00:40
So let's get started.
00:44
Here's my 5 frame and if I put 1 red and 1, 2, 3, 4 blues, we can see that all space
01:04
on this 5 frame is taken.
01:06
So that means we have 5, 5 objects on this 5 frame and they are 2 different colors.
01:15
Also we can see that this 5 is made out of 1 red and 4 blues.
01:23
So guess what that's telling us?
01:26
That is telling us that 1 and 4 makes 5.
01:35
What other ways can we make 5?
01:38
Well, I can remove a blue and put a red and now you can see 2 reds and 3 blues make 5.
01:57
Now I can go further and you will notice something as I go further.
02:05
Just check this out.
02:08
I move another blue and add another red and now 3 reds and 2 blues make 5.
02:26
Notice something.
02:27
Just earlier I had 2 reds and 3 blues that made 5.
02:32
Now I have 3 reds and only 2 blues to make 5.
02:39
Did you notice that the colors changed but it's still 3 and 2 and that's still 5.
02:48
And if I go on further you'll see I remove 1 more blue and put in a red and now I have
03:02
4 reds and 1 blue and again it's still 5 because my 5 frame is filled.
03:09
Every space on my 5 frame is filled.
03:12
This is telling us that 4 and 1 is 5.
03:19
Also 1 and 4 is 5.
03:22
3 and 2 is 5 and 2 and 3 is 5.
03:29
For short I'll just say 4 and 1 is 5 and 2 and 3 together is 5.
03:39
You should try this at home.
03:41
Try to get 2 different groups of objects that you'll use as counters and see how many ways
03:48
you can make 5 using both groups of objects just like what I've just done.
03:55
Ok, bye!
