'We're gonna get through this:' West Florida residents gear up for Milton

With time ticking away until Hurricane Milton's landfall, people in west Florida say they've never seen a hurricane coming with a trajectory quite like Milton's.

00:00I'm storm chaser Connor McCrory reporting from West Central Florida as

00:04Hurricane Milton makes its way toward the state. Hurricanes are nothing new to

00:08Floridians but this season has been unusually damaging. I spoke with

00:12Sarasota resident Gage Woods earlier about the compounding effects of

00:15multiple hurricanes within a short time frame. The beaches just aren't recovered

00:20you know there hasn't been time for people even to get all the debris out

00:25from Helene so that that's another concern too because all that debris is

00:29out there and it's just gonna be washing and flying around. We've seen

00:33quite a few hurricanes come through but nothing really coming on the trajectory

00:38like this one. I've lived here my whole life 30 years we're in zone E so we're

00:43pretty pretty good above sea level but yeah just the power issue and that's

00:47what our main concern is this time too. I tried my hardest to get a generator but

00:51there's just you know absolutely none left that you know any of the stores to

00:56buy any of the stores to rent you know so just everyone be safe and we're gonna

01:01get through this it's gonna be alright. Now Gage says that he's far enough

01:06inland that he's not too worried about the storm surge but he is concerned

01:09about the damaging winds that Hurricane Milton is going to bring to the region.

01:13With recovery efforts already strained by recent hurricanes Debbie and Helene

01:17West Central Florida is once again bracing for difficult times ahead.
