00:12But what if we knew more about the ingredients in these products themselves?

00:16Let's start with retinol.

00:17Small molecules that make up retinol penetrate deep beneath the outer layer of skin,

00:22the epidermis, to the middle layer of skin, the dermis.

00:26Once there, retinol helps to neutralize free radicals

00:29and in doing so, improves the production of collagen and elastin in the skin.

00:33This helps to create its signature plumping or smoothing appearance.

00:38Another popular ingredient that you'll find in a lot of products is hyaluronic acid.

00:42Hyaluronic acid is a gooey, naturally occurring substance that exists in the skin.

00:47Often referred to as a moisture magnet,

00:50hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water,

00:54making it a fantastic hydrating agent.
