Malaysian prime minister and Pakistani prime minister together press conference in Islamabad today

00:00million per annum, a colleague of mine said, Prime Minister, you have revised your figure

00:07from 100 to 200.

00:10I said, that's how we achieve targets.

00:14And I'm sure, Prime Minister, I'll have your full support on this.

00:19I want to assure you from the core of my heart that we will not compromise on quality, we

00:26will not dither from our commitment, and we will meet your terms and conditions under

00:34all circumstances.

00:36And of course, we have discussed export of basmati, and you have been so kind to give

00:46us your word of honor that whatever the discrepancy is will be removed.

00:52And of course, you know, there was a time when Malaysian boys and girls would come and

01:01get their education in Lahore, Karachi, and other places, King Edward Medical College,

01:10and so on and so forth.

01:12And today, as luck would have it, thousands of Pakistani students are now getting high-quality

01:20education in Malaysia.

01:22I think we are very happy about it, because this is how we are going to, through joint

01:30collaboration and cooperation, we are going to synergize and get maximum dividends from

01:38our efforts and from our cooperation.

01:44Your Excellency, in defense cooperation and security cooperation, we are absolutely ready

01:51to further enhance this area through mutual cooperation, and your desire would be my command.

02:02Finally, I would like to appreciate, on behalf of the people of Pakistan and my government

02:11and myself, your very clear and very forthright stand on Gaza, oppressed people of Palestine,

02:26and of course, this recent attack in Lebanon.

02:31I think our hearts, you know, it's very heart-wrenching, in fact.

02:40It's heartbreaking to see this and watch this and read these stories day in and day

02:47out of innocent children being martyred, mothers, fathers being martyred in front of their young

02:55children, and cities after cities being demolished.

03:01I think in contemporary history, this kind of genocide, carnage, there's no parallel

03:11to that.

03:12I hope and pray to God that through our joint efforts, you know, a ceasefire could be put

03:21in place as of yesterday and peace is restored and, you know, good sense prevails upon.

03:32Similarly, the unsettled question of Kashmir, your Excellency, is a matter of great concern

03:42for peaceful world and, of course, Islamic world.

03:48Indian people of Kashmir are struggling for their basic rights and still have to be given

03:56their right of self-determination.

04:01They have struggled, they have paid huge sacrifices, and I think thousands and thousands of Kashmiris

04:09have been martyred and, of course, worse kind of atrocities committed against them.

04:18They have been put in third class jails, imprisoned for life, and given very severe punishment.

04:30Yet, Kashmiris are brave people.

04:34They have withstood and they have fought all these trials and revolutions with great courage

04:45and I'm sure one day soon they will get their basic right.

04:51Excellency, once again, thank you very much for your visit.

04:55God bless you and Pakistan and Malaysian friendship.

05:02Before I invite you, I'd like to recite Iqbal's and you will like this stanza.

05:13He says, and says very eloquently,

05:16Tamanna aaburu ki hai agar gulzaar-e-hasti mein,

05:27toh kaanto mein ulaj kar zindagi karne ki khoo kar le,

05:32aur nahi yeh shaan-e-khuddaari chaman se tod kar tujhko,

05:38koi dastaar mein rak le, koi zeve gulo kar le.

05:42Thank you very much.

05:43Before I invite your Excellency the Prime Minister of Malaysia for his remarks,

05:47I would like to announce that Pakistan is translating

05:50His Excellency Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim's book titled Script into Urdu Language.

05:56Script stands for sustainability, care and compassion, respect, innovation, prosperity and trust.

06:04These six values were selected because of how they integrate together

06:10and reinforce one another.

06:12The script acronym has been translated as Madani in Malay.

06:17It is a current national policy framework serving as a resource for understanding

06:22the essentials of governance, social justice and community building.

06:27The book will be launched as soon as the translation is completed.

06:32Now I invite your Excellency for your remarks.

06:34Assalamu alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

06:37Alhamdulillah, we praise and pray for His noble Messenger.

06:44Thank you, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif,

06:50for the hospitality to my delegation,

06:54for your kind remarks, for your support,

06:59and not merely a friendship or diplomatic encounter,

07:04but for a brotherly spirit shown,

07:08and the love and affection as brothers.

07:13Well, I am…

07:20…very meaningful to me, very personal,

07:24because it is a land envisioned by Allama Muhammad Iqbal.

07:30With his wisdom, the philosopher-poet has placed in his writings, in his speeches,

07:36such a vision, and we just hope that this spirit

07:42lives on in the hearts and minds not only of Pakistanis,

07:47but also the Muslims throughout the world.

07:49But as I remarked, this is also the land led by one esteemed world statesman,

07:58Khairul Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

08:01And I recall that many of my speeches, lectures,

08:07I have never failed to cite some of his brilliant speeches,

08:12including the compelling case for Pakistan

08:18in his 1947 Constituent Assembly speech.

08:23Now, we have had extensive discussions.

08:28It is amazing. It is only through, not only bilateral encounter,

08:33but a trusted friendship that we can agree on a number of issues,

08:39and you have proven what many of us believe,

08:45very serious, very business-like, down-to-earth, get things done.

08:50And I don't envy your colleagues.

08:53But it means well for the future of Pakistan.

08:58And so we will meet next month in Kuala Lumpur, inshallah,

09:03the Joint Review Committee of the Malaysia-Pakistan Close Economic Partnership Agreement

09:09for the Joint Commission Meeting.

09:12And we will follow through with my colleagues in detail in specific programmes,

09:18to make sure that those things we have agreed will be implemented.

09:25On the BIF import, it shouldn't be a problem, and we will certainly look at it.

09:34And we need, we still import, we import from other countries.

09:40I don't see any reason why we can't import from Pakistan.

09:43Thank you very much.

09:44There is no issue of halal.

09:46In all my travels, Pindi and Karachi and Islamabad, Lahore,

09:52and of course, Sharmila Gardens is my favourite.

09:57I just love to bring my wife and be more romantic in that place.

10:03We don't have any issue with this halal certification.

10:08But we will go through the process, and we will certainly speed up the import from Pakistan.

10:15Similarly, rice. We do import rice.

10:19And we have agreed the initial 100,000 metric tonnes.

10:25We will see the price mechanisms, etc.

10:30But I can assure you there is no differentiation in terms of import duty imposed.

10:37In fact, I am pleased to announce to you that the trade office, Matrade,

10:42will open next month in Karachi.

10:49On the issue of collaborations and skilled labour,

10:54we will certainly look forward because our focus on the professionals

11:02is required to satisfy the new demands.

11:07Huge, massive investments, probably the largest in the ASEAN region,

11:12in terms of IT, digital, and AI.

11:16And I am pleased, alhamdulillah, that Malaysia is regarded as one of the important hubs

11:21for the semiconductor industry.

11:25And we should be able to collaborate on that field too.

11:28We discussed a variety of issues on the special economic zone,

11:33on the issue of trade investments,

11:41on military and defence procurement,

11:49particularly in areas that you have been able to succeed,

11:53even in collaborating with Turkey.

11:57On flights, thank you very much for the additional four flights.

12:01Malaysia looks forward to increasing that

12:05because there are some triple interest,

12:09triple numbers of tourists from Malaysia to Pakistan,

12:15which sees the potential of this beautiful country.

12:20And I think in this relation,

12:22we will certainly welcome Pakistani tourists into Malaysia.

12:27One of the key advantages is that we have warm water throughout the year.

12:35As long as you wear something.

12:39Now, on EV and car,

12:43there are specific areas I wouldn't dwell on these subjects

12:46because I think many of the issues have been discussed

12:49and we are supposed to follow through.

12:52But you did mention some of the international concerns.

12:57I followed your speech at the United Nations General Assembly,

13:01compelling case to respect human rights, justice all over the world.

13:07And you made a compelling case for Palestine and Gaza.

13:11And we appreciate your stance.

13:14And it has been followed, it's viral,

13:19admired by many of those who believe in freedom and justice.

13:24The problem is more precarious, of course,

13:27now with the expanded and extended war or aggression into Lebanon

13:33and the continued genocide into Gaza and the West Bank.

13:39We have said that this issue is not a war between two countries.

13:44It is completely intransigence and aggression

13:49disregarding all fundamental rules of international order.

13:53And the plight of the Palestinians for seven decades now,

13:58dispossessed, denied of their basic rights.

14:03And you have seen not only inconsistency,

14:07but hypocrisy in many so-called countries

14:10talking about human rights and freedom,

14:12hectoring the world about human rights and freedom,

14:14but certainly being very selective in the decisions.

14:20On Kashmir, which you discussed,

14:22because we have said clearly that we are committed

14:25to support the United Nations Security Council resolution.

14:29But the concern of human rights concerns is, of course, our concern.

14:33We continue to voice in true channels that is acceptable.

14:40And we pray, inshallah, that this issue will be amicably resolved.

14:47We did discuss on issues like Afghanistan,

14:51hoping to achieve some sort of arrangement and international recognition,

14:58hoping also that Afghan authorities and government also concede

15:04and try to make the adjustments necessary to secure peace with its neighbors

15:10and also to ensure that some policies are generally acceptable to the international community,

15:16including women's right to education.

15:20We discussed the need to continue our engagement

15:24with the United States of America as an important country

15:28in terms of trade investments and diplomatic relations,

15:31but also to accept the fact that we are an independent nation.

15:35And ASEAN, for example, the ASEAN Security Council

15:39regards the relations with our neighbors as very important

15:42and therefore our strengthening of relations with China.

15:48So again, let me thank you.

15:51Thank you for this opportunity.

15:53And thank you for reciting this great poem from Alamah Muhammad Iqbal.

15:59Very impressive.

16:01I know you tried to convince me that you memorized some, and I don't.

16:06Except for being a very serious student

16:12who tried and grasped the values, the message, the compelling case for dignity

16:22that is expounded by Alamah Muhammad Iqbal.
