00:02Oh, yes, that was, those were the notes that I received today.

00:06First of October, and then here we are.

00:08I'm Jodie, we met months ago for Jurassic, when it was nicer weather,

00:12and now here we are in October, and the autumn vibes.

00:14Yes, yes, yes.

00:15It's so lovely to see you.

00:16Good to see you too.

00:17How does it feel to be here at an event that's celebrating all things women?

00:21Yeah, it's cool.

00:22I mean, I love it.

00:23It was really fun this morning.

00:24We had a big, they called it a big family photo,

00:27and it was all the women who were involved in Amazon MGM projects,

00:30and, you know, there's just so many people that I either,

00:35I know because I've worked with them and I love them,

00:38I know because I admire them, and then, you know, there's some new faces as well,

00:42and I'm just like, oh my God, what are you in?

00:44I want to see it, I'm obsessed with you.

00:45So, it was a great kind of chance this morning to see everyone,

00:50and I instantly, when I walked in the room, I was like,

00:53oh my gosh, I can totally tell that the majority of individuals in this room

00:57are female-identifying because it just feels delightful,

01:03unlike tea time, kind of.

01:05Yes, yes.

01:06It's like a vibe and atmosphere that just is unmatched.

01:08You've just got to experience it.

01:09Yeah, yeah, yeah.

01:10And listen, so many people look up to you as well.

01:12Like, how does it feel to be called a trailblazer?

01:15Well, I mean, I don't look at myself in that way,

01:20and in all sincerity, you know, there are many, many people

01:24who are incredible trailblazers and whatnot,

01:26but to get to be doing work in this industry is a huge honor and a privilege.

01:36I'm over 20 years into my career, and to still get to be here is very cool.

01:44I mean, I think what I would say is that the way I feel,

01:46kind of looking out at all the incredible women that I'm getting to see,

01:50you know, Amy Pascal, Octavia Spencer, like they're just, you know,

01:54it's an extraordinary group.

01:57Just, you know, I've always felt when being around women who are icons,

02:05I've felt included.

02:08They make space for others, and I know that's like a big generalization,

02:12but I've literally never encountered a female in this industry

02:18who hasn't been kind of like arms open.

02:22And there's an idea that there's competition between folks in this business,

02:27and particularly between women, and it couldn't be further from the truth, honestly.

02:33My God, it's, I mean, the incredible peers and bosses and, you know,

02:40community that I've gotten to be a part of as a woman in this industry is just,

02:45it's a gift, and I'm very lucky.

02:47I love to hear that, and you're also behind the camera as well.

02:50How does it feel to be sort of in that space as well?

02:52Because that's a space we need more women as well.

02:54Yes, yeah, yeah, yeah.

02:55Yeah, no, directing is something that's always been very, very, very important to me

03:00and always kind of happened simultaneously along with my acting career.

03:03And then the last several years, I've been very lucky

03:06because directing on The Mandalorian has obviously been quite high profile.

03:11Just a little.

03:12It's really, it's really cool and really wonderful.

03:15And what I would say is that for me, it's,

03:20there are specific things that I'm fascinated by in filmmaking and storytelling,

03:24and that's what I chase.

03:26I think the idea of being like a woman in a space that, you know,

03:30hasn't typically like included women necessarily, historically speaking.

03:38That can get, that can kind of like mess up your thinking

03:42and sort of get you into a place where you're like,

03:44ah, I don't deserve to be here, or whatever it is.

03:47Whereas if there's something, if there's a mission that you're on,

03:49like for me, I specialize in emerging technology,

03:51and I love performance, I love actors.

03:53And so I'm always just seeking opportunities to be around incredible actors,

04:01and to be around, you know, folks who are really kind of moving the needle

04:08when it comes to, you know, the technological advancements that are possible in cinema.

04:13So just focusing there, I get less fe-clumped about it all, you know.

04:19Well on that note, who are some of the women that you've worked with

04:21and maybe you want to work with that have inspired you in your career?

04:24Yeah, my gosh, I mean there's so, so many incredible women.

04:28Like Octavia Spencer was here today,

04:29and I had the incredible honor of working with her in The Help,

04:32and have worked with her actually many times since.

04:36She's always been unbelievably supportive of all of her peers.

04:43I've felt it acutely.

04:46She's shown up for me, like when I've directed little things,

04:49and, you know, like she won an Oscar and then did a tiny part in a Lifetime thing that I directed.

04:54I was like, oh my God, Octavia, you are a saint.

04:58So, you know, Viola Davis, kind of same thing.

05:00These are, you know, women who I really, really, really look up to and admire.

05:07Sigourney Weaver, who I got to work with on my first movie.

05:12Hugely impactful, you know, great.

05:15Sissy Spacek, great.

05:16Just so I could go on and on and on, yeah.
