00:00In the ongoing concern of the typhoon Hulian, where several farmers in the country are stranded,

00:05the Agriculture Department assured that the rice supply will remain sufficient and there is no reason for the price to rise.

00:13Here is the report.

00:17It seems that this disaster happened in Lasam, Cagayan after the typhoon Hulian.

00:25In Posey Mark, Calamay, it can be seen that the planted rice has been plowed

00:31while some parts of the farmland in the area are flooded.

00:35According to the Department of Agriculture Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office,

00:40the possibility of a later typhoon Hulian in the provinces of Batanes and Cagayan

00:44will reach up to 52,000 hectares in the Palayans.

00:49In spite of this, the Department of Agriculture assured that the rice supply will remain sufficient

00:56and there is no reason for the price to rise.

00:59We do not expect a sudden increase in the price of agricultural commodities,

01:07especially in the Palayan rice.

01:08Our local and imported level of supply is already good.

01:13We have enough supply.

01:16The DA expects that tradable rice will be added to the market.

01:21India has already lifted the exportation ban on non-basmati rice like Indica

01:27which is usually imported by the Philippines.

01:30The effect of this, according to the Department of Agriculture.

01:3340% of the rice that is traded in the world comes from India.

01:40So if there is more volume that is traded, especially in rice,

01:45it will have an impact.

01:47Not only here in the ASEAN region, but also in the whole world.

01:50It is possible that it will go down.

01:52But some groups of farmers are worried about the effect of the imported rice

01:58that was left behind by the arrival of the typhoons.

02:01Our problem now is that the farmers are increasing

02:07and the imported rice is going down at the same time

02:10because only 15% of the rice is being sold.

02:13And then it rains.

02:15So it's a combination of all these factors.

02:19Why are the prices of rice going down?

02:22There are areas that report 14-15 pesos per kilo.

02:27That's fresh.

02:29So that will be about 18-19 pesos clean and dry.

02:33Compared to 25-27 pesos last season.

02:38When it's wet season, we have an expectation that it will go down a little.

02:43But because the buying price of the NFA is still high,

02:47and the prices are going down,

02:52the prices of the NFA and traders are still good.

02:59Around 420,000 metric tons of rice was destroyed

03:04because of the El Niño and the typhoons.

03:07But it is still included in the 600,000 metric tons

03:10that was allocated to agriculture.
