Hey kids, thank you for joining me. Today I am learning all about teenage numbers. The
00:07
last time I saw you we learned all about the tens and ones place. But I am having a hard
00:11
time with numbers above ten. Would you help me learn more about teenage numbers?
00:17
Awesome! Let's go over to the teacher's desk.
00:24
Here on the desk we have some numbers. They start with eleven and end with nineteen. These
00:29
are the numbers between ten and twenty. We call these teenage numbers. Can you read the
00:35
numbers with me? Eleven, twelve, thirteen, fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen,
00:47
nineteen. Take a minute and tell me how all these numbers are alike or what is the same
00:53
about all these numbers? Each one of these numbers has the number
01:00
one in front of the two digit number. What does the number one mean in front of the two
01:05
digit number? It means that there is a ten inside that number. The other number represents
01:13
how many ones are left over after the ten. To better understand this, let's take a look
01:19
at one of these numbers. Here is the number fourteen and in the number fourteen we have
01:25
a one in the tens place and a four in the ones place. Another way to think of this is
01:31
one ten and four extra ones after the ten. Teenage numbers all have a ten and some extra
01:39
ones on the side. You can see that in the tens place there is one group of ten and in
01:44
the ones place there are four extra ones. There is also another really cool way to look
01:51
at these numbers when they expand. Let me show you an awesome way to look at teenage
01:55
numbers. Here is the number fourteen. You will notice
02:02
the tens place is one color and the ones place is another color. But watch what happens now.
02:11
Wow! The number ten was hiding in the number fourteen. In all teenage numbers there will
02:18
be a ten hiding in the number. Let's look at one more teenage number. What
02:25
number is this? This is the number eighteen and if we find the ten hiding we will see
02:33
ten and eight extra ones. So the number eighteen is a ten and eight ones left over.
02:43
Great job kids! You can even make your own cards just like this one.
02:49
We learned today that teenage numbers are eleven through nineteen and each one of the
02:54
numbers are made up of a ten and ones left over. So a number like thirteen is made up
02:59
of a ten and three ones. These teenage numbers are awesome! I hope
03:05
you learned a lot about teenage numbers like I did. Take care and we will see you next
03:09
time. Goodbye!
