Malaysian companies should avoid trying to compete directly with Chinese firms.
00:06
Instead, a business leader said it should collaborate with them under China's Belt and Road Initiative.
00:12
Tang Zhe Nian, president of the Malaysia Guangdong Chamber of Commerce,
00:16
said local companies will face big challenges competing with Chinese businesses
00:20
in manufacturing, technology and new energy sectors.
00:24
Tang said Chinese companies are leading in these fields,
00:28
mainly because of their large domestic market,
00:30
while the Chinese government is dedicated to helping them compete internationally.
00:35
To ultimately lead to win-win outcomes,
00:37
he said Malaysian companies should complement the efforts of Chinese companies,
00:41
which introduced high-tech innovations and advanced technologies.
00:45
He called on Malaysian companies to play to the country's strengths in resources with great potential,
00:51
such as palm oil, durian and other natural resources.
00:55
Tang also suggested forming strategic partnerships with Chinese officials and businesses
01:00
to encourage technology transfer, training and create opportunities for Malaysians to study in China.
