Hello kids, today I want to tell you a story about my friends, the Silly Rollers.
00:08
The Silly Rollers lived on a mountain with their entire village.
00:12
The name of the mountain was Math Mountain.
00:17
Every day they go to play and some of them roll down one side of the mountain while the
00:21
rest roll down the other side of the mountain.
00:26
This right here is the family of six rollers and they each go out to play rolling down
00:30
the mountain.
00:33
Wait a minute, some of them went down one side, but how many went down the other side?
00:37
I would like to know how many went down the other side.
00:41
Well, we can find out by counting the rollers on this side.
00:46
We have one, two, three, four.
00:49
This means that the rest of the family is playing on the other side of the mountain.
00:53
Can you tell me, how many are playing on the right side of the mountain?
01:00
If there are six total that would mean there are one, two, three, four, five, six rollers.
01:08
There are two rollers on the right side of the mountain.
01:10
Great job!
01:12
So within this family of six rollers there are four on this side and two on this side
01:16
of the mountain.
01:18
Can you see a pattern here?
01:20
At the top of the mountain we always have the total, which in this case is the entire
01:25
roller family.
01:26
On the bottom we have two sides of the mountain and each side added together gives us the
01:31
total up top.
01:33
Each of these sides are called partners.
01:36
Both partners added together give us the total.
01:38
Wow, this is amazing stuff, I love it!
01:45
Here we have a new roller family from the village and there are seven in all.
01:48
That means seven is the total.
01:53
Three rollers went down the left side of the mountain.
01:56
Can you tell me how many rollers went down the right side?
02:03
If you said four you are correct.
02:07
We have one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
02:15
Seven rollers in all with three on the left side and four on the right side of the mountain.
02:19
The partners three and four added together give us the total of seven.
02:24
Great job guys, you are amazing!
02:26
We can again see that the two partners on the bottom added together make up the total
02:31
on the top of the mountain.
02:34
Thanks so much for your help.
02:36
Keep practicing and learning more.
02:37
I'm going to go visit the Math Mountain myself.
02:40
We'll see you next time.
02:41
Goodbye!
