01:17We've seen him on Star Boxing. He's a fan favorite and active duty FDNY firefighter.

01:22It's an absolutely incredible story.

01:24Taking on Eric Alves here representing Brazil.

01:32Eric Alves turned pro in 2023.

01:38Originally from Brazil, now lives in Boston.

01:43Luis Maeda called it an honor to fight.

01:47On the Star Boxing platform.

01:52He said he wants to follow the footsteps of Chris Algieri, Joe Smith and others.

01:57And Alves did land that hard shot early.

02:16Since then, it's been both men jockeying for position here.

02:28And one thing about Maeda, he might win the fight, he might lose the fight.

02:33But he is as tough as they come.

02:35You have to be to be an active duty firefighter and an active professional boxer, which he is.

02:40Listen, it's a very tough balance, you know, to go out there and work.

02:45And especially in New York City, being a fireman.

02:48I mean, it's a brood. I'm sure in Eddie City, don't get me wrong.

02:51I'm not trying to compare.

02:54But, you know, New York City, I'm from New York.

02:56So, you know, listen, he puts his life on the line every single day.

03:00And I was mentioning how his brothers and sisters go and watch his fights at the bar.

03:07And Maeda comes right back.

03:11And like we said, Maeda's tough as they come.

03:13He took a hard right hand and then he's right back in there.

03:16And Alves throws bombs.

03:18Every shot he just unloads.

03:29I mean, to be an active pro boxer is tough enough, but to also be a firefighter.

03:33I mean, I don't think that can be understated about how incredible that is.

03:42I mean, you know, New York, you know, police and fire and rescue and EMS.

03:47They're all heroes to me.

03:49You know, and it's pretty, pretty special when you can do that.

03:53But when you're trying to juggle that in a boxing career, you know, it's difficult

03:57because, you know, your hours, I know in the station, I think it's like three days on,

04:01two days off.

04:02I don't know how it works.

04:03But, you know, those days are grinds.

04:05So it messes up your whole rhythm of your training camp and your training.

04:08So, you know, I'm sure he's training at different times.

04:28And let's get underway here for round two of our super middleweight bout.

05:00So as we've been talking about, you've got to get on the scorecards early.

05:06And, you know, Alves, you know, he's a little more cerebral in his approach.

05:09But when he throws hard, tries to go for some home runs here,

05:14especially in that first round.

05:20Oh, nice over and right foot.

05:22Maeda eats it.

05:24Didn't even look like he, I mean, it didn't look like it affected him at all.

05:28It seemed like Maeda was getting a rhythm with that jab.

05:31And Alves just timed it with the right hand over the top.

05:34And that definitely affected Maeda.

05:37And there was a left hook.

05:39By Alves.

05:40He's landing these power shots.

05:41Now there's some blood on the mouth of Alves here.

05:48But Alves certainly has landed a few power shots that have affected Maeda.

05:52They're talking to each other out there.

06:10Nice, nice.

06:11Maeda hits him with two, three, four punches that all landed.

06:17Halfway through this round, too.

06:18And Alves seemed to load up on that big right hand.

06:21Missed.

06:22And Maeda took advantage.

06:27And Maeda seemingly seeing the blood on Alves' mouth,

06:30certainly motivating him.

06:31And it looks like he's targeting that as well.

06:34Nice job by Maeda.

06:35Oh, and he puts Alves down.

06:40With a short shot.

06:41Short.

06:42I think he did it with a nice little short uppercut.

06:44Left hand.

06:45But let me tell you.

06:47Maeda looks so much better than he has in the past.

06:50And Alves does not get back to his feet.

06:54Maeda comes up with a really nice win for himself.

06:58And you know what?

06:59Let me tell you something.

07:00I said this, and I'm sorry I said it.

07:01I'm not too proud.

07:02I said to him what he lacks in technique, he has in heart.

07:06When I was trying to speak about Maeda.

07:08You know what?

07:09That was a wrong description.

07:10He really looks like he's gotten a lot better.

07:14And he's starting to sharpen his skills a little bit more.

07:17And that was an unfair assessment of him.

07:19But he does have a lot of heart.

07:21And he just came up with a big KO for himself to improve to 4-4.

07:26And he gets back to that 500 level, which is great motivating.

07:30It's great for not just his record, but him personally.

07:34Now you're back in that middle, that 50-50.

07:37And now you can really kind of grow on that.

07:40Absolutely.

07:41As we see it in the replay, it was a flurry of punches.

07:43It looked like one of them to the body.

07:44And Maeda was able to get that stoppage win in round 2.

07:47And as Nick said, a tremendous gutsy performance there for Maeda.

07:51Gets back to 500.

07:53That's a big stepping stone for him.

07:54And I'm sure he's going to use that as motivation.

07:57His last fight was a draw.

07:58Now he gets back in the win column.

09:20And puts him away here in the second round.
