Eddie Howe press conference CANCELLED

Dominic Scurr reacts after Eddie Howe's press conference and Newcastle United's match at AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup were both CANCELLED.

00:00I'm here at the Newcastle United Media Centre where we're all expecting to be

00:05speaking to Eddie Howe through there this morning ahead of the Carabao Cup

00:09third round tie at AFC Wimbledon but that tie will no longer be taking place

00:16on Tuesday evening because serious flooding around Plow Lane the pitch

00:21deemed unplayable just as I was driving in this morning got a message saying

00:26that this press conference at the Newcastle United Media Centre had been

00:32cancelled and the match pending an official announcement was highly

00:37unlikely to go ahead but Newcastle have just released a statement saying

00:41confirming what we all knew for the past hour or so just saying that match

00:46has been cancelled and will have to be rearranged for a later date but when

00:50that date is is a big question because the full-time ties which Newcastle and

00:55Wimbledon will both be in the in the half of the fourth round which takes

00:59place the draw takes place on Wednesday evening but then full-time ties take

01:04place the week commencing the 28th of October so about a month's time

01:08Newcastle and Wimbledon will have to play at some point between then but

01:12Wimbledon if you see the footage of the pitch this it's unplayable there's a

01:17hole what described as a sinkhole serious flooding around the ground where

01:21Wimbledon are gonna play not sure cuz their next two games in the next week

01:26both take place at Plough Lane or both meant to take place at Plough Lane so

01:30there's a serious risk of a fixture backlog there Newcastle obviously have

01:34the international break as well coming up in October so when you squeeze this

01:38fixture in and is a big question and if a club are unable to fulfill a fixture

01:45ie this would be in Wimbledon's case being the home club if they are unable

01:50to fulfill the fixture a neutral ground is also a possibility playing at St.

01:55James's Park isn't completely out of the question as I understand but the AFL

01:59rules seem to stress a neutral venue is obviously the preferred option and if

02:05if that's unable to take place the fixture is unable to be scheduled then

02:09Newcastle would receive a buy to the fourth round which is which is a boost

02:14not the boost the not the way with the would have wanted to progress but a

02:18boost nonetheless so yeah interesting developments here this Monday as we now

02:24look ahead to Manchester City at St. James's Park on Saturday and hopefully

02:29we will be speaking to Eddie Howe back here on Friday morning
