Tributes have been paid to Leeds cardiologist Doctor Robert Sapsford who died following a crash near Ledsham on Monday.

00:13Great North Road at around 6.10am.

00:17The 59-year-old doctor worked for the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, who have said

00:22in a tribute that during his career he touched the lives of thousands, not just his very

00:27many patients who loved him, but also countless colleagues and generations of young doctors.

00:33They have said his knowledge and commitment to his speciality was unequalled, becoming

00:37the go-to source of advice for even the rarest clinical conditions.

00:41A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson has said the 29-year-old male driver of the van was

00:45arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has since

00:50been bailed pending further enquiries.
