00:10highlights the challenges for the agency in protecting him

00:14just two months after an attempt on his life at a campaign rally.

00:18The West Palm Beach golf course was partially shut down for Trump,

00:22but it's flanked by three busy roads,

00:24and there are several areas around the perimeter where golfers are visible from the fence line.

00:29Authorities said the suspect was set up in the bushes near holes five and six.

00:34The Secret Service generally secures the area several holes ahead and behind Trump when he plays.

00:40But Trump likes to drive his own golf cart,

00:43and even if players and guests are sometimes screened with metal detectors

00:47before going near the former president, he likes to socialise with members.

00:52Even though Trump's detail was boosted after he was grazed by a bullet in July,

00:57the West Palm Beach County Sheriff noted that because he's no longer in office,

01:01security protocols around the course had loosened.

01:04Some are now calling for Trump to receive the same level of security as an acting president.

01:10At this level that he is at right now, he's not the sitting president.

01:13If he was, we would have had this entire golf course around him.

01:17But because he's not, security is limited to the areas that the Secret Service deems possible.

01:23In the wake of Sunday's incident,

01:25President Joe Biden said he directed his team to ensure the Secret Service

01:29had every resource, capability and protective measure necessary to ensure Trump's safety.

01:35The agency has faced criticism since the Pennsylvania shooting,

01:39in which a gunman fired shots from an unsecured roof a close distance away.

01:44An investigation has reportedly revealed several security failures,

01:48including that a Secret Service radio room had no way of receiving real-time alerts from local police.

01:54The agency's head, Kimberly Cheetle, resigned amid the ensuing scrutiny,

01:58while at least five agents were placed on administrative leave.
