BMW at the 24h Le Mans 2024 - Interview Andreas Roos

00:00So our general summary of the 24 hours of Le Mans 2024.

00:06I mean, to be honest, it was a full roller coaster from the beginning to the end.

00:10I mean, we started actually quite well in the pre-test where the car felt already quite well.

00:16The drivers were happy and then, I mean, the best was the qualifying lap from Dries when he was really on pole.

00:22So we showed the pace of our BMW M-Hybrid V8.

00:26Because to be here the fastest car around the track in Le Mans is really something unique.

00:31Then for the race, I think, especially in the hypercar class side, we did definitely too many mistakes.

00:38We lost our cars quite early to mistakes.

00:41We managed with the 15 car to come back and move again up into the top field, let's say, of the hypercar.

00:48But then, unfortunately, Dries was involved in an accident where he was hit by another car and ended up in the barrier,

00:56which was actually a very harsh and hard accident.

00:59But the most important is that Dries is well off.

01:03He has no major problems.

01:06He's a bit dizzy, but I think he will be fine.

01:08So on the hypercar class side, we have to say this was not the race we expected.

01:14So there is still some work to do, what we have to improve.

01:17We have to use it as a lesson learned.

01:19But on the other hand, on the GT side, I mean, we can celebrate a podium here.

01:24And as you said, the first podium of BMWs after 2011, we are on V2.

01:29This we can definitely take as a positive.

01:32Unfortunately, also there, the 46 car with Valentino Rossi, Maxime Martin and Ahmad Al-Harty,

01:40it was also unfortunately in difficult conditions.

01:45We lost this car, had an accident, and so the car had to be retired.

01:49So at the end, we were only fighting with one GT3 car until the end.

01:53But still, we were fighting for the podium.

01:55And it was a V2 at the end.

01:57Also, a unique thing was our 20th Art Car.

02:01Actually, the 7th Art Car, which is a race car from Jury Maretto.

02:06Everybody was loving the car when you saw it on track.

02:10Also there, we managed to repair the car again after the accident we had and the problem.

02:15So we managed to put the car outside again on the track to really finish the race with the Art Car.

02:21Because this is also something unique to be a 24-hour race Le Mans finisher.

02:26So we managed this with our unique Art Car.

02:29Thanks to everybody who was involved in the whole project, being here in Le Mans.

02:33Our team WRT, all the people back home from BMW and Motorsport, but also here supporting on site.

02:39I think it was a very big event for BMW coming back after 25 years in the top category in Le Mans.

02:47Now we take our points from here and for sure we come back stronger.

02:51The guys are motivated to show what we really can do.

02:55And then we will show 2025 that we will be on the top step hopefully.
