FBI says Donald Trump was target of apparent assassination attempt in Florida

The incident happened at around 2pm local time when US Secret Service agents stationed on the golf course where Trump was playing noticed the muzzle of a rifle sticking through the shrubs that line the course.

00:16An agent fired and the gunman dropped the rifle and fled in an SUV.

00:21At a press conference, a picture was shown of what law enforcement found at the scene,

00:25an AK-47, backpacks and a GoPro camera.

00:30The man was later stopped and arrested by police officers in neighboring Martin County.

00:36We certainly have the vehicle involved in the incident at Mar-a-Lago and we have the

00:40suspect that they were looking for.

00:42And now the FBI and the Secret Service will take over that investigation.

00:47Sunday's assassination attempt is the latest incident in an election campaign year marked

00:52by unprecedented violence.

00:54On the 13th of July, Trump was shot during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, and a bullet

00:59grazed his ear.

01:02In a statement on X, incumbent President Joe Biden wrote, I'm relieved that the former

01:07president is unharmed.

01:09Biden withdrew from November's presidential race in July, giving way to Vice President

01:14Kamala Harris to become the party's nominee.

01:17On X, she said she was glad Trump was safe, adding, violence has no place in America.

01:24The FBI said an investigation into the shooting is ongoing and urged people to stay away from

01:29the area.

01:30The Trump campaign hasn't said whether the former president's upcoming campaign events

01:35will be affected by Sunday's events.
