Whale freed from fishing ropes after four-day rescue in Canada
A humpback whale has been freed by a rescue team off the Canadian coast after being severely entangled in fishing lines. Drone footage shows officers from the Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) Marine Mammal Rescue freeing the whale by cutting the lines which had been wrapped around its body. The four-day effort, running from September 2 to September 6, required over 50 ropes to be cut, to remove fishing gear and floats. Humpback whales can grow up to 14 meters long and weigh as much as 45 tons.
