00:44The typhoon, now weakened to a depression, triggered flooding and landslides across the

00:50Southeast Asian country, sweeping away infrastructure, housing and trees.

00:59Pope Francis has arrived in Timor-Leste, the third stop on his trip through Southeast

01:06His visit comes on the heels of the 25th anniversary of the UN-backed referendum that paved the

01:36A massive distortion in the electricity market between the Southeast and West of Europe means

01:42energy prices are significantly more expensive in the Balkans.

01:46This was stressed by the Greek Prime Minister during a press conference, who said he would

01:51be raising the issue with the European Commission.

02:21Mitsotakis admitted that the single energy market has not worked in recent months, and

02:43that these distortions did not exist until last May.

02:47He also explained how Greece is currently exporting energy to Ukraine, while they historically

02:53imported it.

03:01The Greek Prime Minister stressed that in the short term, what his government has done

03:05and will continue to do so, is impose taxes and fees on producers, making what he described

03:11as sky-high profits.

03:13He noted that while the electricity producers are not doing anything illegal, they are exploiting

03:19a distortion in the system, and set out plans to return these profits to the consumers.

03:28Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has arrived in Beijing, the first stop of a trip to China

03:33which aims to strengthen the commercial relationship.

03:37Sanchez will be received by China's President Xi Jinping, and will hold talks with the country's

03:42Prime Minister Li Qiang.

03:44He'll fly to Shanghai on Monday evening, where he'll open the Spain-China business meeting

03:48on Tuesday.

03:51Sanchez's trip to China comes at a tricky time for relations between the European Union

03:55and the world's second-largest economy.

03:58The EU imposed provisional tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles in July.

04:03The European Commission said that Chinese firms unfairly benefit from government subsidies,

04:08allowing them to keep their prices artificially low.

04:12That prompted Beijing to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization.

04:17And China's Commerce Ministry said it had launched an anti-dumping investigation into

04:21imports of pork products from the EU.

04:25Spain is Europe's largest pork exporter, and in 2023 supplied China with around 22% of

04:31its imported pork, trade that's worth 1.2 billion euros.

04:42British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has met his Irish counterpart Simon Harris in Dublin

04:47in a visit described as a reset.

04:49Starmer's trip is the first by a British leader to Ireland in five years, and is a further

04:54sign that the two wish to deepen relations on economic and security matters.

05:00It's a pleasure to be here, to have this opportunity which we will take to renew the friendship

05:05between our countries. That reset I think can be meaningful.

05:11Starmer and Harris participated in a business roundtable to explore how renewed relations

05:16could benefit trade.

05:18The economic relationship is worth around 120 billion euros and supports thousands of

05:23jobs on both sides of the Irish Sea.

05:27Relations between the two countries have been strained since the UK voted in 2016 to withdraw

05:32from the European Union. That's affected political and trade structures of Northern Ireland,

05:37which is part of the UK.

05:43Residents in Maramures in northern Romania have been surveying the damage after a massive

05:48fire in the area was extinguished.

05:51Six warehouses have been reduced to ashes and entire orchards have been destroyed in

05:56the blaze that broke out on Saturday.

05:59Locals said the fire started suddenly and quickly intensified before spreading to houses.

06:13The Ministry of Internal Affairs said on Saturday that 90 people had been evacuated from the

06:18area.

06:20People said they had tried to tackle the fire themselves to protect their homes until firefighters

06:25were able to reach the scene and put it out.

06:41More than 250 firefighters from Maramures and neighboring counties were mobilized to

06:47extinguish the fire.

06:48The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations believed the fire started on an area of dry

06:54vegetation and quickly got out of control.

06:57But authorities don't yet know how it started and have opened an investigation to determine

07:02the cause.

07:06Abdelmajid Tabun has been re-elected as president of Algeria.

07:11Preliminary results from the weekend show the incumbent leader considered the military's

07:16candidate won by a landslide.

07:18The 78-year-old garnered 94.7% of votes, despite questions over voting irregularities.

07:26This will be Tabun's second term as Algerian president, with his appointment unsurprising

07:31to many of Africa's largest country by mass.

07:34The first election that swept the leader to power was marred by boycotts and protests.

07:42Hundreds were evacuated after significant flooding at the famous Lord's Shrine in southern

07:47France.

07:48Local officials said that the evacuated included pilgrims and residents from nearby hotels

07:53and campsites.

07:55After heavy rainfall, a nearby river overflowed, causing water levels to rise about one meter

08:00deep in front of a grotto believed by some to be the place where the Virgin Mary appeared

08:05in 1858.

08:08Staff, volunteers and emergency services worked together to clear the floodwater and reopen

08:13the sanctuary.

08:15As the Paralympic Games come to an end, Paris is hoping to leave its mark on how disability

08:32is viewed and taken into consideration.

08:35These Paralympics set a multiple amount of records.

08:40The first one is that the highest number of delegations participated compared to previous

08:45editions, 169 to be exact.

08:48And then the second record that was set is that these were the Paralympics that were

08:53the most covered by international media, 165 TV channels followed the event.

08:59And around 2.4 million tickets out of 2.5 were sold.

09:04As a reminder, the highest record of tickets for the Paralympic Games ever sold was in

09:10London in 2012.

09:12What remains to be seen is whether there will be a lasting legacy when it comes to

09:17accessibility and social inclusion for people with disabilities.

09:21At the end of August, the president of the region, Valéry Pécresse, called for a massive

09:25renovation to fix the capital's centuries-old public transport system that is almost impossible

09:33for people with disabilities to even access, a project that could take up to 20 years and

09:38cost 15 billion euros.

09:41And the feasibility of it has not even been discussed.

09:49Spanish director Pedro Almodovar has won the golden line for the best film at the 81st

09:54Venice Film Festival for his movie, The Room Next Door.

09:57He received an almost 20-minute ovation when he collected his award for his first English

10:03language film.

10:04It stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton and tells the story of two friends who rekindle

10:09their friendship only to discover that one has terminal cervical cancer.

10:14Almodovar, who dedicated the prize to his two stars, has previously called for greater

10:19access to euthanasia.

10:32The other big winners were Nicole Kidman, who walked off with the Volpi Cup for Best

10:36Actress for her role in Baby Girl.

10:39And Vincent Landon won the Best Actor prize for The Quiet Son.
