Just hours after being announced as Barisan Nasional's candidate for the Mahkota by-election, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah was hit with devastating news about his father's health. 00:12In a statement on Facebook on Sunday, the Kluang Amno Division Youth Chief said that his father has been placed in an induced coma.

00:20On Saturday, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk On Hafiz Ghazi announced that Syed Husin is set to be Barisan's candidate for the Makota by-election.

00:3040-year-old Syed Husin has been in Amno for over 20 years and is also a councillor for the Kluang Municipal Council.

00:38The Makota state seat became vacant when its Assemblyman, Sharifa Aziza from Amno, passed away on August 2.

00:46Polling for the by-election has been set on September 28, while nomination day for candidates is on September 14.
