The president of Honduras, Yamada Castro, condemned the destabilizing actions taking
00:14
place in the country against democracy.
00:19
In France, the left claims President Emmanuel Macron is stealing the legislative election
00:23
from the people by appointing conservative Michael Barnier as prime minister and rejecting
00:28
to appoint economist Lucie Kastetz.
00:34
And thousands of people took to the streets in Yemen on Friday to demonstrate against
00:38
the Israeli genocide in Palestine.
00:45
Hello and welcome to From the South, I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:50
We begin with the news.
00:51
The president of Honduras, Yamada Castro, condemned the destabilizing actions taking
00:55
place in the country against democracy.
00:57
The head of state ratified this Friday that her government belongs to the people and that
01:02
she will continue defending their rights in spite of the complex circumstances the country
01:07
is going through due to the interference of the United States.
01:11
The president pointed out that her government is facing a crisis and assured to be ready
01:15
to repel the attacks in defense of the will of the Honduran people.
01:19
Yamada Castro emphasized that the armed forces, the popular organizations and the unity of
01:24
the Free Party will defend democracy, its independence, sovereignty and dignity without
01:29
forgetting to be an axis of anti-imperialist resistance.
01:42
In this context, Honduran president Yamada Castro stressed that her administration seeks
01:46
to recover the economy from the debt left by past governments.
01:56
We received a country in rags.
01:59
That is the depth of what we received.
02:02
And we always said that this government was going to be a transitional one, from dictatorship
02:13
to democracy.
02:21
How much we have done and we are building, not only in the different towns and cities.
02:33
We are building a different country, we started by organizing the finances of the state that
02:39
before were managed with trusts.
02:47
I am paying penny after penny the debts that the country acquired in the last government.
02:57
In Venezuela, the Vice President, Elsie Rodriguez, who is also Venezuela's Minister of Energy
03:01
and Petroleum, has toured the Orinoco oil belt to see that the industry continues to
03:06
strengthen.
03:07
The facility, one of the most important in the country and named after Commander Hugo
03:11
Chavez, was toured by the delegation, which also included the President of Petroleos de
03:15
Venezuela, Héctor Obregón, and in a leading role, the plant's workers.
03:20
During the visit to the facility, located in the south of the country, which extends
03:24
over five states, they reviewed the recovery and development plans and reaffirmed the commitment
03:30
to contribute to peace and the growth of the country.
03:46
The Government of Colombia reached an agreement with the transport union to end the nationwide
03:50
strike over the increase in diesel prices.
03:53
This way, the comprise came after four days of the national action that caused blockades
03:58
in several cities of the country.
04:00
Regarding the agreement, the Ministry of Transportation emphasized that the transporters will accept
04:05
the gradual increase in diesel, which will be 800 Colombian pesos per gallon and translates
04:11
to 0.19 dollars compared to 0.46 dollars initially intended.
04:17
In addition, 14 other points were agreed upon, including the suspension of additional increases
04:23
until structural transformations in the sector are achieved.
04:38
Pilots of Argentina's national airline Aerolíneas Argentinas go on strike and several air routes
04:43
have been cancelled at two of Buenos Aires' main airports.
04:47
The airline pilots' association ceased activities at 5 a.m. local time and remained on strike
04:52
until 2 p.m. local time, affecting 150 flights.
04:57
Through social networks, the union announced that given the lack of willingness on the
05:02
part of the airline to advance in a salary increase, they will begin to deepen the measures.
05:08
Meanwhile, the aeronautical unions have also been actively demanding improvements for the
05:12
sector's salary for two weeks.
05:16
Let's take a short break, but remember you can join us on Tiktok at Velasuri English,
05:24
where you'll find news in different formats, news updates and more.
05:27
We'll be right back, stay with us.
05:39
Welcome back.
05:40
In France, a poll reveals that more than 50% of the French reject the appointment of Michael
05:46
Barnier as Prime Minister.
05:47
The poll shows that 57% of French people distrust Barnier's abilities as Prime Minister, as
05:53
well as the political class of the authorities.
05:56
The text reflects dissatisfaction and growing fatigue on the political class and the general
06:01
atmosphere of distrust towards successive leaders.
06:11
In this regard, the leftist leader and founder of France Insoumise, Jean-Luc Mélechon, stated
06:16
that the appointment of Barnier as Prime Minister would not have majority support in the National
06:20
Assembly.
06:21
He also denounced the thief of the results of the legislative elections of July 7th.
06:26
Mélechon argued that the new Prime Minister Barnier has no relation to the results of
06:32
the elections and his position would be promoted by the ultra-right wing of Marine Le Pen.
06:46
For its part, the French Socialist Party announced that it will censure the government of the
06:50
new Prime Minister Michael Barnier, considering that it lacks political and democratic legitimacy.
06:55
The Socialists pointed out that in the last legislative elections, the New Popular Front
07:00
won 193 deputies in the National Assembly.
07:03
Therefore, it would be this political party that has the right to propose a new Prime
07:08
Minister.
07:09
In view of this fact, they are asking people to take to the streets next Saturday to protest
07:14
against the appointment of Michael Barnier.
07:24
In this context, French citizens have reacted to Macron's newly appointed Prime Minister
07:29
with some claiming it evidences a lack of respect for the people's voice.
07:37
It's not a surprise in the sense that Barnier's name was already out there, but it is a surprise
07:42
in the sense that the less Republican's party was largely in the minority in terms of the
07:47
number of members of Parliament.
07:50
So it's an anomaly that it should be a politician from that party who is appointed Prime Minister.
07:56
It's astonishing.
08:02
It's boring.
08:03
It's like a huge denial.
08:06
It proves a lack of respect for the voice of the people.
08:11
The majority of French people voted for the New Popular Front.
08:15
It would be a question of playing the game, Macron, anyway.
08:34
In China, more than 400,000 citizens were evacuated due to floodings caused by the arrival
08:39
of Typhoon Yagi in Hainan province in the south of the country.
08:43
The heavy rainfall caused the suspension of educational and work activities, in addition
08:47
to the interruption of the electric service that affected the operation of ports, airports
08:52
and other basic services.
08:54
Residencying provided barriers with sandbags on the periphery of residential areas due
08:59
to the risk of flooding.
09:01
Authorities confirmed that other provinces such as Guangdong and Guangzhou were affected
09:06
and activated maximum alerts to protect the population.
09:10
The National Meteorological Authority stated that Yagi is the strongest autumn typhoon
09:15
ever to strike the Asian country.
09:26
In this context, Vietnamese meteorological authorities issued an alert for the arrival
09:31
of Typhoon Yagi and ordered the withdrawal of fishing vessels as well as the preventive
09:35
evacuation in some northern regions of the country.
09:38
Additionally, the Vietnamese government suspended activities at ports and airports, including
09:43
the Hanoi International Airport.
09:45
They also urged the population to stay indoors for their safety.

10:27
Welcome back to From the South.
10:29
In Myanmar, at least 13 people were killed on Friday after a Burmese military junta carried
10:35
out an air raid against the city of Nakhkham, near the northeastern border with China.
10:41
According to the website of Tang National Liberation Army, which controls the city since
10:45
December 2023, a Burmese army plane dropped bombs early Friday morning on at least two
10:51
points of the city, killing at least 13 people and wounding 11 others, including women and
10:57
children.
10:58
Rescue operations are still continuing, searching for bodies under the rubble of the houses
11:03
and buildings destroyed by the attack.
11:12
The government of Russia announced on Friday it will impose restrictions on US media, an
11:17
action that comes in response to Washington's sanctions against Russian media outlets.
11:21
The restrictions were announced on Friday by the spokesman of the presidential office,
11:25
Dmitry Peskov, in reference to the coercive measures imposed on media outlets such as
11:31
Sputnik and some of its workers.
11:33
For his part, the Russian ambassador accredited in Washington, Anatoly Antonov, assured that
11:39
sanctions have become a kind of discipline in political sports for the United States.
11:44
Furthermore, the diplomat stressed that these measures are aimed at pressuring independent
11:48
countries and highlight the risk of a dollar-centered system.
11:58
In the Philippines, the former major of Bamba, Alice Leal Wu, was extradited back to the
12:02
country early Friday after being arrested in Indonesia.
12:05
Wu, who had been on the run since July, is accused of human trafficking and links to
12:10
organized crime, specifically involving a gambling center where hundreds were allegedly
12:16
forced to run scams or face torture.
12:18
Her escape route included Malaysia and Singapore before her capture on September 3, 2024.
12:25
Upon arrival in Manila, she was taken into custody by national police.
12:29
Wu faces multiple charges including graft and money laundering.
12:34
Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. called her capture a significant step in combating
12:39
crime.
12:55
Thousands of people took to the streets in Yemen on Friday to demonstrate against the
13:08
Israeli genocide in Palestine.
13:10
Around 70 massive rallies were registered in the country as part of the weekly mobilizations
13:15
of solidarity with the Arab country.
13:17
The demonstrators waved Yemeni and Palestinian flags and chanted slogans in favor of the
13:22
Palestinian cause.
13:23
The organizers of the rallies issued a statement criticizing the Israeli regime for what they
13:28
described as their crime of the century in Gaza and against the Western supporters of
13:33
the Tel Aviv regime.
13:35
In the statement, they also said the mass rallies will continue until the victory of
13:39
Gaza, emphasizing that the Yemeni nation will stand firm in its principled support for the
13:44
oppressed Palestinian people.
13:54
The Western countries that supply the Zionist enemy with weapons to kill our Arab people
14:00
in Palestine are very biased countries and are aligned with the enemy, so we consider
14:06
their condemnation of our operations in the Red Sea, an attempt to protect the Zionist
14:12
entity and its crimes.
14:18
A message to the European people, your governments today are contributing to the genocide against
14:22
the Palestinian people in Gaza by submitting to the Americans' orders by militarizing the
14:27
Red Sea.
14:28
America involves you in their own problems.
14:30
The solution to stop the Red Sea operations is to stop the aggression against Gaza and
14:35
lift the siege.
14:36
This is the easiest solution.
14:39
The Israeli occupation forces shelled the city of Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, leaving
14:44
at least six dead.
14:45
Health authorities informed that the bodies of the victims were recovered after the airstrike
14:50
and transferred to the Nasser Hospital in the neighboring city of Kanjounis.
14:53
Meanwhile, emergency teams of the Palestinian Red Crescent reported injuries following other
14:58
attacks by the Tel Aviv army on the center of Kanjounis.
15:02
The ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people has killed more than 40,878 people
15:09
and wounded 94,454 since the October 2023 onslaught.
15:21
We remember Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa, who died 26 years ago today, on September 6, 1998.
15:36
Kurosawa directed 30 films during a rich career that spanned over five decades.
15:42
He is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential filmmakers in the history
15:47
of cinema and played a bold, dynamic style strongly influenced by Western cinema but
15:53
different from it.
15:54
In 1990, Kurosawa won the Academy Award for Lifetime Achievement and was posthumously
16:00
named Asian of the Century in the Arts, Literature and Culture by the Asian Week magazine and
16:06
CNN, which considered him among the five people who most probably contributed to the improvement
16:12
of Asia in the 20th century.
16:14
He is mostly remembered for his iconic films No Regrets for Our Youth, Scandal, Rashomon,
16:21
Ikuru and The Seven Samurai, among others.
16:29
And 17 years ago, on September 6, Italian opera singer Luciano Pavarotti died at the
16:34
age of 71.
16:35
Endowed with an intense voice in his highest notes and richness in the middle range, Pavarotti
16:41
is considered one of the most famous singers of the last decades of the 20th century and
16:46
the first decades of the 21st century and the best tenor in history.
16:50
He sold over 100 million records and joined Spanish opera singers Plácido Domingo and
16:56
José Carreras to form the so-called Three Tenors, whose first recording became the best-selling
17:01
classical album of all time.
17:03
During the late part of his career, Pavarotti crossed over into popular music, sharing stage
17:09
with renowned singers such as Sting, Bono, Brian Adams, Tom Jones, Celine Dion, among others.
