00:00My name is Damian Scott. I am the Deputy Editorial Director at Billboard.

00:05I've been here for a year now.

00:08This is the first power players, hip-hop power players I've been involved with.

00:13And when we started to think about what exactly a hip-hop power player is,

00:18I think, to me, it was somebody who exhibits a special quality, right?

00:23Someone who is able to control the game, control the genre.

00:27Someone who is in the embodiment of hip-hop.

00:30And hip-hop, to me, as it probably is to a lot of you,

00:33is young, brash, innovative, and honest.

00:36And the person who is getting this award right now

00:39has blazed a trail that has influenced a number of younger artists.

00:44He's released a number of amazing tracks this year.

00:47And on top of that, he knocked his first Billboard Hot 100 hit

00:52with Carnival earlier this year.

00:55And put his name in the record books with Ye, Ty Dolla $ign, and Rich the Kid.

01:02He's gone from one of the most promising and exciting rappers in the game

01:06to one of the most forward-thinking CEOs

01:09and one of the most powerful, exciting labels that we have right now in opium.

01:16What's even crazier is that he's just getting started.

01:18And I'm a huge fan of his.

01:20I know he's someone who makes people think about what rap is supposed to be.

01:25And to me, that's exactly what a rapper is supposed to do.

01:28Make everybody think, what the hell is going on right here?

01:31What am I listening to? Is this good? Is this bad?

01:34And the fact of the matter is that it's great.

01:36And it's my honor to introduce

01:39the 2024 R&B Hip-Hop Power Player Artist of the Year
