It's that time of year ladies! Tennis at Shrewsbury for the League of Friends Royal Shrewsbury. How are you?
00:05
We're good, thank you.
00:06
And it's not raining, have I said that word too soon?
00:10
Annual event isn't it this?
00:12
It is, it is. How long has it been going now I think?
00:15
Over 20 years now.
00:16
Has it?
00:17
Yes.
00:17
Wow.
00:18
Judy organises this event with some very good helpers, very well.
00:21
Ah, so are you you're fully on cake duty or are you picking up a racket at some point Judy?
00:26
No I'm not, no. Too busy, I'm...
00:28
Too busy on the teas and cakes?
00:30
Yeah.
00:31
And Sue, it's important, isn't it, events like this? They really do help, yeah?
00:35
They certainly do. I mean the aim with League of Friends is really to sort of help and
00:40
support the patients in the hospital, gives them more comfortable experience and
00:45
and to help buy equipment for the hospital which is a huge thing.
00:51
This year we're trying, well at the moment we're trying to raise £33,000
00:55
for a laser for the fertility team.
00:58
Okay, yeah.
00:59
So it's important, every penny that we raise today will go towards that.
01:03
Do you know how much normally you make from the League of Friends, from this tennis event?
01:08
It's usually around £2,000 but we get some support from Lloyds Bank which it
01:15
definitely contributes towards it.
01:16
Yeah, great.
01:17
And then we've got some nice raffle prizes as well.
01:20
Yeah, a very nice raffle prize from Lakeland this year.
01:23
Lakeland have been quite very supportive in the past as well.
01:26
Well done, Lakeland.
01:28
So we'll leave you to it.
01:29
Sue, it's normally a golf club in your hands, isn't it?
01:31
It certainly is.
01:33
This is only a prop.
01:36
Ladies, how are you?
01:37
Very good, thank you. How are you?
01:39
Good, thank you, yeah.
01:40
And great, great event again and you're loving it.
01:42
It's your Chair of Tennis Shropshire?
01:44
I am.
01:44
So that means you're an excellent player and have won every game so far.
01:48
I wish that were the truth but sadly it's not.
01:52
And what's your names then, ladies? I should ask that.
01:55
So I'm Fiona Jones and I'm Linda McMahon.
01:58
Cool, some good accents here.
02:00
Oh yeah, it's the Celtic team, this.
02:02
Yeah, the Celtic team.
02:04
Do you both live in Shropshire then, obviously?
02:07
Yes, so I'm from Ludlow and live in Ludlow and Mark in Drayton.
02:11
So how did you discover Shropshire then?
02:13
I'm just wondering.
02:15
Well, mine was by accident actually.
02:17
I used to work for a company and I was moved over to England and then Ludlow just
02:22
and Shropshire just happened to be there and I've been here 25 years.
02:26
Little gems, aren't they, these Shropshire towns?
02:28
They're lovely.
02:28
Yeah, we try not to tell too many people.
02:31
I mean, I'm on the edge of Wolverhampton.
02:32
I don't tell anyone over there.
02:34
Ludlow is nice.
02:35
Yeah, so good event to be part of.
02:38
Have you took part before?
02:39
Absolutely terrific.
02:40
Now, it's the first year that I've taken part because in previous years I've not been able to
02:45
but it's really nice.
02:46
It's great to come along and be able to play some tennis and, you know, for a great cause as well.
02:51
And it's got a really nice kind of just relaxed friendly atmosphere, isn't it?
02:54
Absolutely.
02:55
It's nice to see so many women just having such a nice time playing tennis.
02:59
Yeah.
03:00
Well, I'm sure you're just finding your form this morning
03:02
so I wish you all the luck in the rest of your games.
03:04
Cheers ladies.
