00:00Alright, hey people, it's JZReviews and I'm here to do an unboxing and review for you
00:05guys of the Power Rangers Lightning Collection Power Morpher.
00:07Now, I did not expect this to come back in stock in this, the year of 2024.
00:16It randomly came back in stock several weeks before I'm filming this, probably, actually,
00:20probably cleared a month before I'm filming this, and literally I just got back from Power
00:27Morphicon a little over a day before I'm filming this, so yeah, it got to my house
00:36on the Friday that Power Morphicon started, but yeah, and I was in California, I live
00:42in upstate New York at the time, at this point, so yeah, couldn't get it, couldn't come back
00:48to get it, but yeah.
00:52So if you are looking for a release of this, check all over the place, check Amazon, which
00:59is where I got mine, check, like, Tokolectables, check Entertainment Earth, wherever you tend
01:04to get your Power Rangers merch, toys, whatever, check there, they most likely have it in stock.
01:10Get it before it's gone again, because it took, like, what, like four or five years?
01:15Actually, I think it was like five years, maybe six, at the most, for them to re-release
01:23this.
01:24I don't know why, but it took that long, so yeah, so yeah, I'm gonna be doing this, and
01:29as a result of not having gotten this for a while, because the prices for this shit
01:35skyrocketed, like, to over, like, $100 to $150, maybe even more, I have the Master Morpher,
01:44which is basically the same mold as tweaked for this, before I got this, so, yeah, um,
01:54but yeah, so, yeah, and I just wanna say that, I just wanted to say that, get this before
02:01it's gone, because at Power Morphicon, one of the vendors was selling one of these for
02:07about $250, yeah.
02:12And I remember, I think I was standing in line, I think it was when I did the shirt
02:18redemption for the ticket I got, and, um, for Power Morphicon, and, uh, I was standing
02:29by one of the vendors with someone else, or might have been at a different time, but it
02:34was near where the shirt redemption thing was, so yeah, and someone who was standing
02:40right next to me, uh, said that they were looking at it, and they were like, $250, that's
02:45a lot, and I'm just like, look on Amazon, or any other place, they literally just came
02:50back in stock.
02:51But yeah, because this is like, I think $60-something if you get it on Amazon, or any other places,
02:57maybe search for a discount code, depending on where you buy it, you may find one that
03:01works.
03:02But yeah.
03:03Um, so yeah, this is probably, unless if I can get the In Space Psycho Rangers for the
03:09Lightning Collection, um, or, yeah, basically those, this might be the last, like, Lightning
03:18Collection review I do for a while, just so you guys know, but yeah, I didn't even expect
03:23to be able to do this after the last one I did, so, yeah.
03:28But yeah, so just doing the Power Morphers stuff, especially since, um, I don't know
03:33if the Lightning Collection's gonna come back, because Hasbro sub-licensed the franchise
03:38to Playmates, and they're gonna be, they're gonna start making toys for the franchise,
03:44um, so yeah.
03:46Um, and who knows if any of the, I really wish they would put back in print the Psycho
03:50Rangers, because those I very much regret not getting when they were on sale on Amazon.
03:55I really wish that they would put that back in stock, but, you know, what can you do?
04:01Um, but yeah.
04:04So, right here we have the box, which, uh, is done in that, like, comic book type style,
04:12they basically just reused, I believe, the original design for this.
04:15You have the Power Morpher on the stand, uh, right on top here.
04:20You got all five of the main five, uh, Power Rangers from Mighty Morphin' right here.
04:26You have a picture of the, um, Morpher itself right there with the Tyrannosaurus coin.
04:32You have the Power Rangers Lightning Collection logo, which is embossed in a nice gold.
04:36Then it says Power Morpher right here, Hasbro, five Power Coins, and then that in like five
04:41or four additional languages.
04:44Power Morpher 18+, for that market, takes three AAA batteries, so, yeah.
04:51Um, so here we go with the side, the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers logo.
04:56Yeah, I think this is from like 2018, 2019, because, uh, it still has the Saban logo.
05:02Future releases of, um, the Power Rangers merch for the seasons with, um, that had the
05:09Saban logo originally would have the Saban logo taken out, uh, which I'm completely fine
05:16with because I know Saban's a piece of shit, but, yeah.
05:20You have some legal stuff right there, um, then you have warning stuff right there, on
05:25the top.
05:26Again, the comic book-esque pictures of all five Ranger helmets, and then the Power Rangers
05:31Lightning Collection logo.
05:34Then on the back, you have just pictures of the, um, the Morpher with everything, so yeah.
05:41Power Rangers Lightning Collection logo, picture of it on the stand, uh, the button, uh, that
05:47has voice phrases from the show.
05:50It's basically an equivalent to the Memorial Edition stuff that, um, Bandai Japan has been
05:56doing for Super Sentai merch, um, and whatever other, like, brands that they've been doing
06:02that with.
06:03Then you have a showing of the lights that go on when you use the different coins, so
06:08yeah, and this shows the red lights, which is actually a pretty good, uh, way of showing
06:14that that can happen.
06:15So yeah.
06:16Um, so all I did was just cut that open, but yeah, or I just cut the tape so I can easily
06:30open that.
06:34So here we go, you have the Power Morpher right here, the five coins, which, yeah, not
06:42sure what that is, but I'll take a look at it in a second.
06:47Ugh, this molded plastic.
06:49This is also before the, uh, right, this is also before the, um, the plastic, no plastic-like
06:56initiative that Hasbro did.
07:00So we have the stand right here, which is not too dissimilar to the one for the Master
07:04Morpher, I'll do a comparison on that in a second.
07:08The belt buckle holder thing, which, yeah, they use the same mold for the Master Morpher.
07:15Again, no surprise there, because Master Morpher is just basically the Parent Morpher slash
07:20Dino Buckler, if you're familiar with Zyuranger, uh, just different, um, chrome, or just like
07:29gold chrome and all that, and different, like, looks like either paint or stickers that are
07:36in it.
07:37But yeah.
07:38So here we go with the instructions, basically, gotta open up the back with a screwdriver
07:44and put in three AAA batteries, then just how to use it and what happens when you use
07:50it in a diagram.
07:54So that's actually nice, another thing for the stand and the buckle thing, so that's
07:59good.
08:00And then this is warning stuff and different, you know, caution stuff for the batteries.
08:09But yeah.
08:11Um.
08:17So yeah.
08:21What is this?
08:25Oh.
08:35Okay, so this is a back for the stand right there.
08:39Okay.
08:41Okay.
08:43That's not bad.
08:45So...
08:49Let's take out the Power Coins, because...
08:52Yeah, the Master Morpher did a service with, um, putting all the coins in it.
09:01The, um, weren't they in a, in like a bag or, like a plastic bag maybe?
09:09Some kind of bag, I think.
09:12These coins actually have a decent weight to them.
09:17They feel like they're made out of a type of metal that's cast in gold chrome.
09:26Again, I'll compare it to the Master Morpher in a moment.
09:38God damn.
09:40Oh.
09:44Ah, more of the plastic.
09:51If there is one thing to be said about the, um, the paperless initiative is that it's
09:59actually easier to get shit out of the, uh, box and the, uh, other stuff that's in said
10:06box.
10:10Yep.
10:24There we go.
10:26Okay.
10:28That was way too much, like, expended strength, in my opinion.
10:34But whatever.
10:40But yeah, um, so...
10:44Here we have the Power Morpher.
10:49This is more based on the original prop, I believe, as actually seen in the show, and
10:54the original 93-slash-92, if you're familiar with G-Ranger.
11:01Uh, the toy from the 90s.
11:04Um, so yeah, rather than the, uh, the Legacy Collection version of the toy, which was slightly
11:13bigger, was in, like, die-casts, like chrome metal, like silver chrome metal, and yeah.
11:20So this is actually a more screen-accurate version to the original series, um, rather
11:28than the new stuff, actually, that was produced, um, for, uh, Beast Morphers, and then Once
11:37and Rain, or Once and Always, which used the Lightning Collection, or not Lightning Collection,
11:44uh, Legacy, um, Morphers as props.
11:49And if you also didn't know, bit of trivia, for, uh, Kyoryuger vs. Gobusters, the Sentai
11:56movie, that was the equivalent to the Power, or the, uh, the crossover in Beast Morphers,
12:01with the Dino Charge Rangers, and then, um, the original Mighty Morphin team, and the,
12:09uh, Dino Thunder team, um, that they licensed footage from for that.
12:17Uh, they also, as confirmed by Yuta, forget his last name, um, from, Geki from G-Ranger,
12:25he confirmed that they, I think it was, was it at Power Morphin' Gone?
12:29I think it was, like, Power Morphin' Gone 2014 or something like that, he confirmed
12:32that they used the Lightning, or the Legacy, um, Power Morpher for the prop that he used
12:41to do his change in that movie.
12:44So they were just being consistent with the Sentai footage, which was interesting, considering
12:49they would have had to reshoot it anyways, cause, you know, actually showing the human
12:53faces.
12:54But yeah.
12:55Um, so yeah, so here we go with this.
12:59So the front actually looks pretty nice.
13:02Folds out.
13:03Uh, nice, like, shiny, kinda glittery silver, has the Power Rangers, uh, buckle, or sticker,
13:13right there.
13:14It actually looks like, maybe it's paint?
13:17I'm not sure.
13:18Um, but yeah, and then you have the black things right here.
13:22So yeah, I'm wondering if anyone makes decals for this, uh, cause I know what happened with
13:27the Lightning, or the Legacy version, that's a, uh, curious Sentai Zyuranger on it.
13:34But yeah, um, so this actually looks really good.
13:37On the back you have the Z, which originally stood for Zyuranger, but Mighty Morphin' Power
13:42Rangers stands for Zordon and Zords and whatever.
13:45So, yeah.
13:48I'm gonna take a second to open up the back here.
13:57Which, they were definitely taking, I think, inspiration from the Memorial Edition stuff.
14:03Cause, okay, actually, right, right, it was the same thing with the Master Morpher.
14:08There's no on and off switch, I don't understand why.
14:12Uh, the Memorial Edition Sentai stuff usually do have on and off switches.
14:19Alright.
14:29So, there we go.
14:32It's kinda, there's no activation sound, but, you know, you deal, you deal with it.
14:38Um.
14:46Okay.
14:48So, now that it has batteries, let's actually take a look at the, uh, coins.
14:57So right here we have the Tyrannosaurus coin, kinda doesn't show up too well on camera in
15:03terms of mold, but it is the Tyrannosaurus coin.
15:07It actually looks really good.
15:09Has a decent weight to it.
15:10Honestly, it does not feel, like, plastic-y at all.
15:14It has a good weight to it.
15:16On the inside you have the picture of the Ranger helmet, which is nice.
15:23Um.
15:26Let's see.
15:27Triceratops coin.
15:30Um.
15:36The Mastodon slash Mammoth.
15:40I don't know why they call it a Mastodon in Mighty Morphin, it's a Mammoth.
15:46In Zyuranger, and that's basically what the animal is.
15:50Silvertooth Tiger.
15:53And these Herodactyl.
15:59I do like the, uh, I do like that, that they put the, um, the Ranger helmets on the other
16:09sides of the coins.
16:11So, yeah.
16:13So let's test these out, shall we?
16:15Um.
16:23Oh.
16:31I did not put it in enough.
16:47Okay.
16:48Okay, you can put them in when it's closed.
16:50So that was for the Tyrannosaurus coin.
16:51Unlike the Legacy Edition, this does not play the, um, the theme song.
16:59So, yeah.
17:01Yeah, and they definitely took the voice clips from, um, one of the episodes where the morphing
17:21sequence happens.
17:23Probably, I'm assuming, an episode where the music doesn't play when they morph.
17:32Yeah, that sounded, that sounded oddly clipped.
18:01Like, when they took it from the episode's audio, um, the sound engineers accidentally
18:08clipped off when she says, er, when she begins to say er in tiger.
18:14Yeah, because to me, um, just in my opinion, uh, what was I gonna say?
18:34Haha!
18:35Um, everyone else's sound clips are the full ones that you'd expect, but otherwise, meh.
18:42So, yeah.
18:43So, let's do the comparisons to the Master Morpher, shall we?
18:48Since I didn't get in the Master Morpher video.
18:52So, um, in terms of the coins, which, actually, batteries might have run out for this.
19:09Ha!
19:10That sucks.
19:12Yeah, uh, granted, I should probably take the batteries out of the, uh, the regular
19:18version.
19:19But, yeah, um, did I already take the batteries out of this?
19:29Sorry, I just can't remember if I did or not.
19:39Okay, I did actually take the batteries out.
19:45So, yeah, but if you remember from the Master Morpher video I did, if not you can go watch
19:52it, I have an entire playlist for these reviews.
19:55Um, basically, for the Master Morpher, what happened is they have a bunch of, um, Tommy
20:04clips that Jason David Frank recorded before, like months before, unfortunately, his, um,
20:10his passing.
20:12And, um, yeah, and all that.
20:17And, um, yeah, and I do, I do believe he, or the phrases, chorus, most of the phrases
20:28at least correspond with his different morphings.
20:31So, yeah.
20:32So, to compare the coins for a second in terms of weight, it feels like they do, um, weigh
20:45about the same.
20:51That's an entire third coin.
20:53Where did I, oh, yeah.
20:55Yep.
20:56Uh, so it does feel like they weigh about the same.
21:00I do, however, prefer how these coins are cast, though.
21:05Um, they're both cast in a gold, like, metal sort of thing.
21:10Um, the thing, though, is these are more shiny and everything, which, I don't know if that's
21:16screen accurate or not.
21:18If it is, that's fine.
21:19It's just that I prefer how these turned out, where they have, they look like they have
21:24more detail.
21:25They're not shiny.
21:26They look like they have, like, a slight black wash to them, which makes the details stand
21:32out better, so you can actually see better, uh, what's on the coins.
21:36But yeah.
21:37But they basically weigh about the same, um, and feel about the same as a result.
21:44So, yeah.
21:46Um, now in terms of the, and obviously you get, like, six coins for Tommy's six different
21:53Ranger forms over the years, and, uh, the original Power Morpher comes with just the
22:01regular five Power Coins.
22:03They were going, I know Jason David Frank, I think he confirmed in an interview he did
22:08before he died, that has since been released, that they were originally going to do a separate
22:15version of his original Power Morpher for Mighty Morphin, but, uh, and they called him
22:21up to see if he would want to record, I think, voice phrases for it.
22:25But then he, um, he said, you know what you should do?
22:29I'm gonna make you guys a lot of money, you should do a Master Morpher.
22:32They didn't know what it was at first, and I guess he had to explain it to them.
22:35Um, and yeah, that's just basically what happened there.
22:40So we got the Master Morpher from, well, the 25th Anniversary Special, Dimensions in Danger.
22:47So, yeah.
22:48And you can see, um, this is in a gold-plated chrome-type plastic.
22:56Uh, it's actually not bad, I don't mind it being in that.
23:00Um, it's the same kind of, like, chrome plastic that, um, they used for the Lightning Collection
23:08Dino Megazord and the, um, the Dragonzord.
23:15So, yeah, and, uh, the in-space Astro Megazord.
23:19So yeah, so now we have this.
23:21The batteries make this weigh a little bit more, but they feel about the same weight
23:25either way.
23:26But yeah, and you can see how they changed the details.
23:29Obviously with the part that opens up, different kind of plastic.
23:33This has a shiny chrome-type, uh, plastic feel to it.
23:38Um, this has been sitting for a little bit, so it has a little bit of dust on it.
23:42Um, this is obviously brand new, right out of the box, as I showed.
23:45So, yeah, this just says Power Rangers.
23:48This doesn't say anything, because it's more generalized to all of Tommy's different Ranger
23:52forms, which is fine.
23:54Um, so, yeah, this has had, this particular Morpher over the years, with the different
24:00versions that have been released, have had different, like, um, labels on it, whether
24:05it's just Power Rangers or Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.
24:09Um, you have basically the same thing.
24:12Now, in terms of the Master Morpher and this, you can, I believe, actually fit the coins,
24:19no matter which one you're doing, in both, because, again, they're based on the same
24:23mold.
24:24So, that just makes sense.
24:26However, you cannot use either coins from the other set in the Power Morpher, or in
24:34either Morpher, because they don't have equivalent phrases.
24:39See?
24:40I think, yeah, I think that didn't really lock into place.
24:45Yeah, as you guys can probably see.
24:50So, yeah, that just made that, like, crackly electronic noise.
24:58But, yeah.
25:00Um, I want to do a quick comparison of the buckle for holder.
25:09Um, yeah, they're basically exactly the same.
25:15Which I'm not surprised by, but, yeah.
25:21Now, something dumb that I don't understand why they did.
25:25So, you can fit both of these in there just fine when the Morpher's facing out.
25:31However, you can't really fit it in comfortably, and it snaps into place when it's facing the
25:38other way.
25:39I don't know why they designed it like that.
25:43This is the way that it's facing when the Rangers are in civilian form, in both Zyuranger
25:49and Mighty Morphin.
25:52So, I really just don't understand that.
25:55Oh, yeah, if you look at the bases, I guess we'll take a look at those real quick as well.
26:01So, this is a completely entirely new mold for the most part, um, minus the top part.
26:09Uh, this is obviously in a gray plastic, this is in a black plastic.
26:14This has an open part if you want to store the coins in there rather than on the front.
26:21Um, this does not.
26:24Uh, and on top of that, this has a back piece here, um, that holds the back of the buckler
26:33part, or buckle part, um, and everything.
26:39Um, this does, again, this does not have that, um, because, well, it was, it was slightly
26:46redesigned so that the Master Morpher can just sit there comfortably, uh, in its holstered mode.
26:53Um, so, yeah.
26:56So, that was one improvement that the mold for that made.
27:00But, yeah, um, otherwise, they're almost the same size, the Master Morpher's a little bigger,
27:05a little taller.
27:06But, yeah.
27:07And let's test this out.
27:10Uh, fits pretty snug in there when it's outward, when it's facing outward.
27:16Okay.
27:17So, actually, it works a little bit better for the original Power Morpher.
27:24Okay, so that is actually good.
27:26I don't know what happened with the Master Morpher.
27:28Maybe it's because of the, like, chrome-plated, the gold-plated chrome type plastic that they're
27:36using, or that they used for it.
27:39But, this one does not slip out.
27:43It feels like, as well, it's a little bit more snug in there.
27:47So, while it doesn't clip in all the way like it should, the friction makes sure it stays
27:53in there easier.
27:57So, yeah.
27:59So, we have that.
28:02Just gonna put the Transverse Rex coin in there.
28:07And, yeah.
28:08Okay.
28:09So then, we have both these just here.
28:13Um, this is just gonna annoy me.
28:22Just wanted to make sure that the red light wasn't flashing.
28:25But, yeah.
28:26Um, and then, in terms of the coins, I'm not exactly sure what the right order is, but
28:35I don't, I also don't really think it matters too much.
28:39Um, but, yeah.
28:43So, you can just put all the coins right there, and they rest in their little divots.
28:49Just like for the Master Morpher.
28:52Right.
29:03Right.
29:05Okay, we're at least starting to see.
29:07Um, just put that right there.
29:11But, yeah.
29:12So, you have these two right here.
29:16And, yeah, they make a good set.
29:19Um, so, overall, in terms of my review, I think while it's still a little overpriced,
29:26like a lot of the other Lightning Collection stuff is usually, I think it's probably a
29:32little bit more worth it if you want it, compared to other things in the line.
29:38Um, this is a good, like, reprint of the original toy that they made back when the Lightning
29:45Collection was newer.
29:47Um, it thus does not have a bunch of the technical faults of a lot of the other Lightning Collection
29:53stuff.
29:54Um, they, um, I think that they actually did a decent job recreating a screen-accurate
30:03version of the Power Morpher.
30:05It is definitely different from the Legacy version.
30:08Um, and I have seen the Legacy version in person, because some vendors were selling
30:13it at Power Morphicon.
30:15Um, but that version is now out of print and has been for a while, because Hasbro now owns
30:21the franchise and that was made by Bandai.
30:23So, if, unfortunately, if you're going to want that version, you're going to have to
30:31track down a used one, unless if Bandai Japan has put out the Zyuranger version again.
30:37I think that they did do a Zyuranger version in Japan, but if they ever do it again, or
30:43just in general, you may want to go for that and then try to hunt down some decal stickers
30:49made by fans to put on them.
30:51Unless you're okay with the Morpher saying,
30:53Curious Sentai Zyuranger, but yeah.
30:55Um, overall, I think that this Morpher is good.
31:01I think it is fine, um, for what it is.
31:05Again, in my opinion, a little overpriced.
31:07I think at max this should have been 50 bucks rather than 60-something.
31:11But, yeah.
31:13Um, but yeah.
31:15I do like that the, um, the coins are in this, like, gold-plated, uh, sort of chrome-esque
31:21type stuff.
31:23And metal, they feel like metal.
31:25They have a good weight to them.
31:27The, uh, Morpher itself feels decently substantive in terms of, like, the size.
31:33It feels like it is more accurate in terms of size to the original prop used back in the 90s.
31:39It has, um, less stuff to it in terms of, like, recordings.
31:45But they did take influence from both the Legacy version and, uh, or the Legacy Morpher
31:51and the Memorial stuff that was going on in Japan at the time.
31:55Um, it's definitely not the most impressive Morpher from Sentai or Power Rangers that
31:59I've gotten.
32:01But, um, it is certainly, I think, a decent one.
32:05Um, if you're looking to get a Power Morpher and you want to, or, and you don't want to
32:11break the bank with buying one third-party, especially if you've wanted this particular
32:15version, go out and get it while supplies last.
32:19We all know that Hasbro don't keep these things going for a while, or forever.
32:25And it will go out of stock again at some point, uh, probably before the year's out.
32:31Yeah, unless if Playmates maybe makes a new one, or if Hasbro keeps this in stock while
32:37Playmates, um, makes action figures and stuff.
32:41But yeah, hopefully Playmates also does, like, more, like, Lightning, either Lightning Collection
32:45or Legacy, or just new versions of the older Morphers.
32:49That would be nice.
32:51Um, I would certainly buy them.
32:53So yeah.
32:55Um, so upcoming videos have to deal, or are gonna deal with, uh, stuff with Power Morphicon.
33:01Uh, because I did get B-roll and I got other footage and other stuff from that.
33:05Um, and then, uh, when is it?
33:09I think it comes out in January of next year.
33:11I'm gonna be doing a review of the Memorial GoPhone, is what it's called, from, uh,
33:17Engine Sentai Go Launcher, because I was inspired because Sosuke's actor, uh, Yasuhira,
33:25I believe, uh, Futahara was there, and he comes off like a pretty chill dude, like a pretty decent guy.
33:32Um, we had a short chat about the, uh, yeah, the, uh, the Mobira and Ranger Key.
33:40Um, had a short chat about that.
33:43Um, and then, um, and the Ranger Key that I had, it was the metallic one from the Gokai Saber and Gun set,
33:51which I told him, and yeah.
33:53Um, so yeah, I was gonna have a short documentary on that.
33:57Then, um, when I can sit down and type out my thoughts and remember everything as best I can,
34:06and then record and edit a video around the footage I have and everything.
34:11So, yeah, and there's also gonna be videos of the panel, some of the panels that I was at from Power Morpher Con,
34:17and other stuff, so look forward to that.
34:20Um, so yeah.
34:23Um, so, yeah, uh, really not much else to say, guys.
34:29I do recommend this if you want it.
34:31Uh, Master Morpher, if it ever comes back in stock as well, if you want it, go get it.
34:35Um, if, I have a feeling as well they may do a second, or a third version of these,
34:42where, um, it's the original gold-slash-white Ranger Morpher.
34:47Um, I feel like they may do that eventually, though granted they may have felt like this covered those bases.
34:53But, it would, it would be nice if they did that.
34:56Um, and it was actually interesting because they did, like, a bunch of movie versions of this,
35:00from the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie.
35:02They did red, blue, black, I think yellow and pink for all of them, so they had all of them.
35:08I don't think that they did a white variant, though, so we'll see what they do with this in the future.
35:13They could just reuse the mold, they could just put in some new sounds and everything,
35:16so it would be interesting if they did that.
35:19So, yeah.
35:21Uh, I'm probably not gonna get those variants, though, because it's like,
35:24it's more money than I'm willing to spend for a single one of them,
35:28and I already have the original, I already have these two versions, so I don't need them.
35:31So, yeah.
35:33But, uh, yeah.
35:35So, really not much else to say, so,
35:37link's in the description, I'm gonna share this with everyone,
35:39and I'll see you guys in the next one.
