00:00Welcome to the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between VITA and MEM.
00:17Today, we are celebrating a pivotal development in Malaysia's vocational training landscape
00:24with the launch of the first E-Industry for Industry Plumbing Technology course.
00:31The VITA-MEM Plumbing Technology course is a crucial collaboration between VITA, MEM and key industrial players,
00:43including manufacturers and suppliers.
00:46It addresses a pressing need in our country that has long been overlooked,
00:56the shortage of skilled plumbers and comprehensive plumbing training programs.
01:02To give you a clearer picture, the plumbing system in a new building typically accounts for about 5% of the overall construction cost.
01:15In Malaysia, the plumbing industry for new buildings alone is valued at approximately RM3 billion to RM5 billion annually.
01:27This figure does not even account for the additional work in repair, maintenance and refurbishment.
01:37The skill of this industry underscores the vital role of the plumbing plays in our infrastructure economy.
01:49A good plumbing system is the backbone of any building. It ensures the safe and efficient management of water and waste.
02:00An expertly designed and maintained plumbing system is crucial for the health, safety and comfort of its occupants.
02:09The quality of the system impacts not just the functionality of the building but also the overall value of the property.
02:19Our new collaboration aims to address both of these issues.
02:25By establishing the VITA MPAM Plumbing Technology course, we are not only filling a critical gap in professional training,
02:35but also ensuring that our graduates are equipped with the practical skills needed to thrive in the plumbing industry.
02:45This initiative will provide a structured pathway for young Malaysians to enter a field that offers not only stability
02:54but also substantial career growth.
02:59As we move forward, our goal is to create a robust pipeline of skilled plumbers who are well prepared to meet industry demands
03:09and contribute to the growth of the economy.
03:11This course will provide our future workforce with the tools they need to succeed,
03:18addressing both the shortage of skilled plumbers and skilled municipalities in the job market.
03:25So this collaboration with MAPEN to train the plumbing technology skilled workers,
03:31it is basically for half a year of programme and it's for all Malaysians aged 18 to 30.
03:43You must know Malay, know English and also know mathematics.
03:50And also, for the first 20 students, all the school fees is free.
