Respondent is back on the phone with his people trying to nail this down
00:04
so for now
00:06
We're going to stop saying
00:08
Who the shooter was I mean it appears obviously it was one of the two brothers
00:15
But we don't know for sure
00:18
Which one so this makes an incredibly?
00:23
complex story even more so absolutely so
00:27
Let's say that you know one or the other is alive is being questioned and the other is not alive and
00:35
either way
00:37
20 children are dead those are the new numbers
00:40
20 children are dead so are six adults plus the shooter
00:45
Yeah, we're gonna go take you to a press conference that happened at the hospital at Danbury Hospital
00:52
Just a short while ago again. This is on tape it did happen a short while ago
00:55
But we did hear lieutenant Vance that say that two of the children died at an area hospital
01:02
So let's listen in to that presser from Danbury Hospital to see what they have to say there
01:06
The community who still need our support and we are operating a crisis intervention service
01:14
24 hours a day seven days a week
01:17
Anyone who would like to access those services is encouraged to call 203
01:23
739
01:25
7007
01:27
And unfortunately I cannot disclose any information about patients who are in the hospital at this time at a risk out of respect
01:34
for their privacy
01:36
As well as because this is an active and ongoing investigation the state police are involved
01:41
So I won't be able to take any questions about the number of patients who are here or their status
01:48
Thank you very much
01:52
I can make no comment about those patients
01:59
We have not received their permission to do so
02:05
We are providing medical care to them at this time
02:08
And we have not gotten into discussions about any information that can or should be released
02:16
I cannot
02:22
We received three patients at this hospital, yes
02:29
I have no further questions, or I have no comment on the status of any of our patients. I simply cannot
02:35
Provide any details on their condition at this time
02:38
And I urge you to cooperate with me in this regard given the sensitivity of the situation
02:46
I have no further comments on the status of the patients who were brought here earlier today
02:50
I simply am not able to provide you with any additional details
03:03
We always provide that service, but now we are coordinating a much more comprehensive response with many other community agencies
03:10
But we'd like to have a single point of contact so that phone number can be called and we will triage
03:16
There's the appropriate services to the individual who's calling based upon their needs
03:24
There are a number of local agencies within Connecticut as well as those offered by the state to provide a whole variety of
03:31
Services to patients who might need them both here and in Newtown and other areas of the community
03:40
We are already in the community we have sent out mobile crisis teams to the community
03:47
Personally as to what happened today
03:51
But it's the most traumatic events I've ever experienced or even
03:57
considered it is unthinkable and
04:01
We're all hurting here, but we're also all professionals
04:05
We are committed to providing the care that the community accounts on us for
04:10
But this is as you know as I said earlier
04:13
this is our community and a lot of people live in Newtown work in Newtown and
04:19
We're all hurting they were mobilized within 10 minutes
04:22
we
04:26
We activated four separate trauma teams we had 80 people waiting in the emergency room. They were mobilized within 10 minutes
04:34
We had every
04:36
surgical subspecialty
04:38
On-site we had
04:48
Nurses paramedics we were fully ready to provide the care and we did
04:53
And when something like this happens are you thinking about the tragedy itself or just focusing on care or trying to block that out?
05:03
It's always
05:05
Most important that we provide care sometimes
05:08
It's hard not to think about what you're seeing and what you're looking at, but everyone was very professional
05:13
I was in there when the victims arrived and I have great praise
05:18
for the people who were able to keep their composure and
05:21
Really coordinate their services instantaneously to provide any and all interventions that we could
05:29
Correct
05:34
As I said earlier, I'm really unable to provide you with any details regarding the status of the patients who were brought here
05:47
The number remains at three
05:51
Obviously
05:57
We're concerned about those who either witnessed the shooting or reacting to it and there are a variety of
06:04
traumatic stress reactions that we anticipate and we will provide
06:10
psychiatry psychiatric nurses
06:12
nurse practitioners social workers
06:14
And I think that the crisis intervention team will make an assessment as to the most appropriate care and we will render it
