00:02The first story is told in the film Chariots of Fire. It's the more famous one.

00:08It tells how a Scottish sprinter refused to compete in the 1924 Olympic 100 meters

00:15because his religion forbade him from running on a Sunday.

00:18Instead, he switched to the 400 meters and defied the odds to beat the world's strongest runners.

00:25The other story is how Liddell was born in China and returned there after his victory to work as a teacher.

00:32He supported community sport and after the Japanese invasion

00:36refused to leave, working as a medic. He was captured and died in a prisoner camp.
