Will Rangers ownership have to sell Bochy & CY on returning next season?

With their postseason chances basically dead, we're all looking towards what the Rangers have to do to return to a championship level in 2025. But will Bruce Bochy and Chris Young be around to help with that push? K&C discuss the idea that both could leave the Rangers after a massively disappointing season and that ownership could need to sell them both on returning.

00:00Alright, so we've talked about this a lot off air, maybe it's because of what we hear

00:19from Chris Young, maybe it's because of what we hear from Bruce Bochy and a whole bunch

00:23of other things.

00:24Do you feel like Ray Davis and maybe the Rangers as a whole have to sell YCY and Bochy should

00:31want to return for 2025 and beyond?

00:34And I want to add to this, Mike, and you can correct me if I'm wrong here, I think this

00:38will become more apparent if the Rangers did have like a salary dump before the end of

00:44the month.

00:45Now we're coming up on the end of the month, but if they did a salary dump that they just

00:47got rid of all these players so they could save some money, then I feel like it becomes

00:51even more important to try to sell like, we need you to stay.

00:55At this time next week, we will know if they are trying to save, as Jared Sandler said

01:02yesterday, up to $12 million.

01:05I hope not, because if I'm Bruce Bochy and I'm Chris Young, I would struggle in those

01:13jobs, especially because Bruce Bochy, as far as I know, is going to manage one more year

01:17and then retire from baseball for good.

01:20I hope not.

01:21I hope he signs like another extension for another year or two at the Texas Rangers.

01:25I'd love to keep him around, but Bochy came back and he saw something we didn't see.

01:31Yes.

01:32He saw a team that could contend and we didn't, and we thought he was insane.

01:37And then he went on and won the World Series in his first year.

01:41But if they go into a position where they're saying, hey, we're not really going to try

01:47to contend.

01:48If we do, we do.

01:50I've seen that show before.

01:52It's called 2017 through 2020, didn't go well, where you're kind of in this middle of, we're

01:59not going for it, but we're also not rebuilding.

02:02And you're like, well, what are we doing?

02:05We're just going to kind of try to win 81 games and cheer that on.

02:11I don't know the future of the Texas Rangers, but we'll know a week from now.

02:14But Chris Young is a free agent.

02:16I guess I'll say this before I go further.

02:18I thought what was key, if you listened to us yesterday, if you didn't listen to it,

02:26I thought throughout that interview, Bruce Bochy talked about next year.

02:30Not like he's giving up on this year, but he mentioned a lot of things about what they

02:33can do different.

02:34And if he wasn't talking like that, sometimes we read into it and go, oh, he's thinking

02:39about not coming back or he's not coming back.

02:41Bruce Bochy yesterday in that interview made me confident that he is coming back for next

02:46year.

02:47But I know things can change in the next six weeks to three months.

02:51If behind the scenes, things don't go the way that he wants to, because he doesn't need

02:55this anymore.

02:56He has all the money he needs.

02:57He's got all the legacy he needs in the Hall of Fame.

03:00All of those things.

03:01But he only has the one championship.

03:02He has four.

03:03With the Rangers, Kevin, he needs four here or three here.

03:14I don't know all the owners that are kind of combined, but Ray's the main guy.
