Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, pulling up on a Big Ticket Morning Show with Jazzy
00:07
McBee, none other than the lady Coco Jones.
00:10
Hey, Coco.
00:11
Hey.
00:12
What's happening, mama?
00:13
How you doing?
00:14
I'm doing good.
00:15
How are you?
00:16
I am doing fantabulous, and it is fun watching your ascent since the first time you pulled
00:24
up on me.
00:25
You done picked up award after award after award, and now nominated for your first VMA.
00:32
How does that feel?
00:33
Man, it's so, so exciting.
00:36
I mean, I really, just like you said, cannot believe how different my life is now and how
00:41
much more recognition I've gotten.
00:43
I'm so grateful for it.
00:46
Absolutely.
00:47
Nominated for a VMA and picked up a BET Award, of course, a Grammy Award, and sang your face
00:53
off at the BET Awards, you hear me, during the Usher tribute.
00:56
What was that like?
00:58
That was so cool to be a part of.
01:00
I think it was really refreshing to see BET uplift, of course, Usher, the talented, but
01:06
also to give all of us R&B girls and Lotto rapper, give us all a different way of shining
01:13
our light, but in a cohesive manner.
01:15
That was really cool to be a part of.
01:16
I mean, yeah, and you went down there and gave Usher a taste of his own medicine, as
01:21
the ladies put it.
01:22
You know, you can't take feet, get out the kitchen, Usher.
01:23
I can't believe it.
01:24
You got a brand new single coming out called Sweep It Up on Friday.
01:34
We'll get back to that.
01:36
You know what I'm saying?
01:37
That's coming out.
01:38
Actually, this is going to air on Friday, so it'll be today.
01:41
Brand new song, Sweep It Up, coming out today.
01:43
We'll come back to that.
01:44
What is it like representing all the princesses right now?
01:48
You have this Almost There song for the princess and the frong that you reimagined.
01:54
How's that whole situation?
01:56
Yeah, you know what?
01:58
It was really, really exciting to get to work with Disney again.
02:02
You know, they were the first company to really see something in me and give me that opportunity
02:07
to do my thing.
02:09
And I love Princess Tiana.
02:11
I mean, Black princess, of course, the representation, but also her storyline is really awesome.
02:17
And being able to make it modern and maybe reintroduce her in a different way or introduce
02:23
her to girls who listen to me and maybe haven't listened to Princess Tiana's song is really
02:28
cool to do.
02:29
Yeah.
02:30
I mean, it wasn't that long ago.
02:31
It was only 15 years ago.
02:34
Hey, you never know.
02:36
You never know.
02:37
But that's a big thing that I like to do is pay homage to classics, whether it's classic
02:41
R&B, a classic princess, and put my spin on things.
02:45
You definitely did that with the Here I Go thing.
02:48
Can I get an oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh?
02:53
I think you gave us all we needed for that one, my brother.
02:59
You don't act like you.
03:00
You know what I'm saying?
03:01
They call me Tiki Williams.
03:02
I'm just playing.
03:03
I'm the LOL.
03:04
But you've definitely been doing your thing.
03:10
So I'll tell you what, everybody else, stick around.
03:13
Coco Jones is here with the Big Ticket Morning Show.
03:15
We'll talk about season three of Bel-Air airing right now.
03:19
We'll talk about this new song and talk about everything else she got going on.
03:22
But she's here right now on the People Station V 103.
03:25
Big Ticket Morning Show with Jazmine McBee on the People Station V 103, ATL's number
03:30
one for hip hop, R&B and throwbacks.
03:32
Coco Jones is in the building today.
03:35
Hey, Coco.
03:37
What's up?
03:38
Are you where you thought you'd be?
03:42
That is a great question.
03:43
It depends on what year of thought, because my brain and my expectations changed all the
03:52
time.
03:53
Probably, I would say my nine-year-old self would say I'm exactly where I'm supposed to
03:59
be.
04:00
And if not, she'd be like, you need to do more.
04:03
But me, the young adult, I think I am where I'm supposed to be because I learned so much
04:08
about myself through the peaks and valleys that I don't think I would have had enough
04:12
of an identity had I not been through my journey.
04:15
So yeah.
04:16
What would you say has been the hardest part of that journey?
04:21
I mean, the hardest part is loving what you do and not having the recognition, not having
04:28
the attention, not having the support.
04:30
I think the hardest part is not having the right team, because the right team can help
04:35
you learn to pace yourself and appreciate the time that it takes to really make or break,
04:41
you know what I'm saying?
04:43
And also the right team can, I guess, reinforce that you're good at what you do.
04:46
When it's just you by yourself, you'll be like, is this song even good?
04:49
Like, am I even good, you know?
04:52
So I think that's the hardest part, like knowing where you want to be, but not having the right
04:56
team to help you get there.
04:59
Coco Jones is our guest this morning.
05:00
In case you missed it, Bel-Air season three is airing right now.
05:03
Hey, Hillary.
05:04
Not hey, Hillary.
05:05
How has that been?
05:06
How has that been?
05:07
You know what?
05:08
It's been so, I think this is the first job where I felt, like, comfortable, you know?
05:17
I think, of course, at the beginning, when I first got the job, I was like, please don't
05:20
change your mind.
05:21
What the?
05:22
But as I've gotten to really learn who Hillary has been for other girls and learn how my
05:30
team and how my production with Bel-Air and how they see Hillary through me, I've really
05:35
gotten comfortable in feeling like I deserve this job and this opportunity.
05:40
And it leaves me with this feeling of freedom to be able to not hold back and to not overthink
05:45
and to really give my best work.
05:47
So it's been really, really exciting to feel that way in this job and in this industry.
05:51
That's a rare feeling to feel comfortable.
05:54
How have you been able to balance it all?
05:56
Because you kind of pop in like, well, season three is out.
06:01
You know what?
06:03
Honestly, the strike was the first time where I was able to shift acting completely off
06:11
and just do music.
06:14
My whole journey as a as a artist, I've been an actress and a singer.
06:17
So it's always been both things simultaneously.
06:21
So, yeah, I think life helps me to balance it out.
06:24
And then everything comes in seasons like you can't film a show the entire year.
06:28
You know, you can't do music the entire year.
06:31
There's always windows.
06:33
If you had to choose one.
06:38
I'm going to go with music.
06:39
I'm not even going to lie to you because music is what got me even interested in acting,
06:46
wanting that feeling that music gives me in different ways.
06:50
Introducing me to acting.
06:51
Coco Jones is our guest this morning on V103.
06:53
So I'm glad that you're choosing music since you have a new song to drop off today.
06:58
Explain the song.
06:59
Tell me about the song and then introduce the song.
07:01
Yes.
07:02
Sweep it up.
07:03
I'm super excited.
07:05
I feel like I've gotten so much recognition and love for my voice and for those soulful,
07:11
powerful songs.
07:12
But there's different elements of me that I want to introduce to the world.
07:17
And so Sweep it Up is a different side of me that is very me.
07:21
Very talking my...
07:22
Can I say it?
07:23
Shit.
07:24
Shit.
07:25
You don't say it now.
07:26
I don't know how it works.
07:27
Profanity.
07:28
I don't want to get bleeped out.
07:29
I just won't even say it.
07:30
But Sweep it Up is a different side of me.
07:32
The side of me that talks her shit, who's really confident and who wants to dance and
07:37
have fun and be carefree.
07:39
Not everything is heartbreak and not everything is heavy.
07:43
Some stuff is just light and simple.
07:46
And so Sweep it Up, for me, is a different version of Coco that I'm excited for the world
07:51
to hear.
07:52
Well, we're about to get into it right now.
07:54
Ladies and gentlemen, ATL, here's the other side of Coco.
07:57
It's called Sweep it Up.
07:58
We're at People Station B103.
07:59
Brand new from Coco Jones, Sweep it Up is out today, available, and you should probably
08:05
be banging it all day long, according to me.
08:08
That's how I feel about it.
08:09
B103, ATL's number one for hip hop, R&B, and throwbacks.
08:12
Coco is our guest this morning.
08:14
Okay, I see the other side.
08:16
Okay.
08:17
You know, I'm just trying to give y'all different types of music.
08:22
The music for when you need to get something off your chest, you're emotional.
08:25
And the music for when you just want to dance a little bit, throw it in a circle or something.
08:31
In a big circle.
08:32
Tell me, tell us, tell me, tell us something about Coco we really don't know.
08:43
Hmm.
08:45
You wouldn't know how random my thoughts are.
08:50
Like, I think I put together, I'm very put together, you know, but my brain is so random.
08:56
Like, I could be thinking right now, just about nature, like I'm looking at this tree
09:01
out the window.
09:02
Like, what type of tree is this?
09:03
And how do trees even have different species?
09:06
Like I would want to just know random things.
09:08
That's why I just randomly Google stuff all the time.
09:11
So that's probably something like, let me get into a moment where I'm really zoned out.
09:15
I'm probably thinking about who was our 14th president.
09:18
Okay.
09:19
It can just be anywhere and anything.
09:23
Okay, I like it.
09:24
Randall with the thought process.
09:26
Speaking of presidents, you're building this up on November.
09:30
I'm really excited to educate myself and let that decide what I do.
09:34
Honestly, I've had, I just want to make sure you are voting.
09:38
I mean, I absolutely think it's super important to vote and also to just make sure you know
09:42
what you're talking about before you just take everybody's opinions, take everything
09:46
that's on the world, decide for yourself what's your truth and everything you do.
09:49
I applaud that way to be about it.
09:52
And I know you'll do what's right for you and what's good for the neighborhood.
09:55
You understand me?
09:57
But right now, sweep it up is what's good for you and good for everybody else.
10:01
Thank you for just being you.
10:04
You know, it's very rare that you meet genuine people around these parts.
10:09
We appreciate your talent.
10:11
We appreciate your drive and your efforts, and we wish you nothing but the best.
10:16
And anything else on the way that we should be aware of?
10:20
I mean, y'all got to stay tuned for the debut album, you know, I'm working on it and finalizing
10:26
certain things.
10:27
And then you got to come see me.
10:28
I'm going to be on tour in your city.
10:29
I know you're looking at your watch.
10:30
I'm looking at my watch.
10:31
We're looking at the same thing.
10:32
I got a date yet, but it's on the way.
10:38
And I really do appreciate everybody staying tuned and staying up with me.
10:42
It's going to be worth the wait.
10:43
Well, Coco, continue to win.
10:45
We are here rooting for you at all times.
10:47
And when you pull up in the ATL, please pull up on our show once more again.
10:52
And we're going to keep sweeping it up in the meantime, while they're in the circle.
10:59
Please believe it.
11:01
Coco Jones is our guest.
11:02
Keep winning, mama.
11:03
We are outside doing the inside that same damn time with the Big Ticket Warner Show on the
11:08
People's Station B103.
