'Four days of hard work:' Bermudians brace for Hurricane Ernesto

Ahead of Hurricane Ernesto, people across Bermuda are moving boats and getting the island ready for the storm's impacts.

00:00It looks like it's going to go right over us, or to our west.

00:04Everybody's paying attention.

00:05That's why we're doing all this work, to try and save people's property and take care of

00:10their boats and make sure they don't get damaged.

00:13We're doing almost as good in the hurricanes though, we do pretty good.

00:18Houses are built strong for it, so we usually have a big party when it's going through,

00:23once we've done all our work.

00:25This is the hard part.

00:26But we still have a lot to do, so we haven't had our beer yet, but we're working towards

00:32it.

00:33The marina here, everybody in the marina has to evacuate.

00:37They have to leave the marina when it's a named storm.

00:39So they either have to get hauled up or go to a hurricane marine, and there's limited

00:43hurricane marines in Bermuda, so that's why a lot of boats choose to come up.

00:49And to clear the marina takes like three days, so you've got to start, you can't wait until

00:55the last day because there's not enough time then to do the work.

00:58So you have to start three days ahead of time, even four days, because the first day is usually

01:02making some prep work, making space, moving stuff around, getting everything ready.

01:07So it's basically four days of hard work.
