Migrants in shock at Belfast racist attacks while locals rally in support  Migrants in Belfast are in shock over racist attacks on foreign-owned shops and businesses on August 3. Several shops were torched while windows were broken at others. Local people have rallied in support with thousands taking part in an anti-racism march and demonstration in Belfast city center. 02:36My question to them is, are we able to do that today?

02:41If I can reopen the shop, it's going to be just because of those people outside,

02:45who came today and showed us their support.

02:4915,000 people today were here in Belfast.

02:53So if we can reopen again, it's going to be not because of anyone else,

02:57it's because of those people who came today and showed us all of the support.

03:01The public is nice, I trust the government as well.

03:10This street is always Turkish supermarket, Turkish cafe, Turkish restaurant, kebab shop.

03:25Always nervous, nervous problem is before nervous problem.

03:29Last week, what happened? Crazy.

03:33Yeah, we wanted to organize the rally today to give the people of Belfast a chance

03:37to come out onto the streets, to show that Belfast is a welcoming city.

03:41It's a city that says no to racism, it's a city that says no to fascism,

03:44it's a city that says no to Islamophobia or anti-Semitism or misogyny.

03:49Yeah, what happened in Belfast last week was extremely shocking for the community.

03:53We are a city who, like the rest of the world, is facing a cost of living crisis.

03:57We appreciate that there are people with concerns in the community

04:01who are feeling the credit crunch, who are paying more and more for less and less.

04:05But their anger and their frustration is misdirected.

04:09This is not caused by people coming to our community for a happier, safer life for their families.

04:15This is caused by governments at the top, their messages of austerity,

04:19the deprivation in our communities.

04:21We need to redirect our anger where it belongs to our governments

04:25and ask them to redress the problems that we have.
