14-year-old girl from West Sussex's Inspirational waterskiing story

Mya Dunning has been able to take to the water with the help Chichester Waterski Club. She’s now setting her sights on competitions.

00:00My name is Maya Dunning and today I've been doing the Slalom full course with Brett Hodgkins.

00:04I started about June, July. I got really into it in July because I started with the kids club

00:10but thanks to Steve I got into it from going from private lessons to be able to do it with

00:15other kids. I really, really love Chichester Water Ski Club and I'm sure everyone else would

00:20say the same because it's such a lovely community, everyone's so welcoming, supportive and it's such

00:25a nice atmosphere. Personally I would love to be competing in the able category because I don't

00:30want to just be the best in like the adaptive category, I want to be seen as good in the able

00:35category as well so I can just be seen as equal. It feels almost unreal because in the moment it's

00:41you feel so free and you don't have time to think about anything to worry about because you're

00:47skiing the course, you've got to concentrate so there's no space for you to worry. It's just

00:52amazing, it's unlike anything I've ever experienced. Hi I'm Diane and I'm Maya's mum. It's brilliant,

00:58it's great you know just to see her relaxed and enjoying herself and you know out in the open and

01:04just yeah having fun and and yeah getting on with it really. It was quite emotional the first time

01:09I saw her water ski just because I think she was so you know amazed that she could do it and the

01:15fact that she seems to be doing so well in it is just yeah it's really really proud, proud mum.
