People on the street: Are exams still fit for purpose?

With results day on the horizon, and millions of young people cross the country waiting with baited breath, we wanted to dive into to the of exams, and whether they are still the best way to test intelligence.

00:00Now, students can be forgiven for being nervous and not really being able to enjoy this lovely

00:05sunny weather that we've been having in Manchester, and that's because Results Day is on the 15th.

00:09So I'm here in the centre of Manchester to ask people their opinion on exams and whether

00:13they think they're the best way of examining a child's intelligence.

00:16Yes, I mean, exams are a good way to test what people learn.

00:23I don't agree with the educational system at all, but I don't have the solution either.

00:28If you think about how vastly different everyone is, yet you're putting all these different

00:34people through the same tracks to learn, I guess, it's almost unfair.

00:41The traditional idea of school is not ideal for everyone.

00:46I have a lot of mates who didn't do very well at school and do very well in the real world,

00:50so for me, there must be a different way.

00:52I think they have their place, but you're on the right course for the right horses.
