A dolphin called Jo Jo is seen swimming in the Thames at Hammersmith

A dolphin named "Jo Jo" by watching children caused a stir in London this morning.Sightings of the mammals are on the up, though experts say it's a "red flag" for them to be spotted this far inland.

00:00So we have a common dolphin. It looks like an adult common dolphin.

00:03It's on its own, which is extremely rare, and it looks very disoriented

00:07and pretty lethargic. So it's potentially swam up the river,

00:10maybe gotten lost, and doesn't have the energy to swim back where it needs to go.

00:14It's really exciting to see dolphins. They're absolutely beautiful mammals.

00:18Obviously we love them very much, but when we see them in the Thames it is

00:22a red flag. Porpoises are fine, seals are fine, but dolphins when they come this

00:26far up the river is a warning sign. So if you do see a

00:29dolphin in London, it's really important to call us,

00:32to call the British divers, so we can come out and monitor the mammal and see

00:35if there's anything further that we can do to help it.

00:37We have seen so far this year five pods of dolphins coming up

00:42beyond the estuary into the Thames. Three of those have come into London.

00:46All three of those have not survived, unfortunately.
