00:39What was happening to your voice when you were trying to sing?

00:42It's like somebody's strangling you.

00:48So it's like you're talking like that and you cannot go high or lower.

01:02My voice is the conductor of my life.

01:08A voice that sold out over 1,000 Vegas shows.

01:11Sold 250 million albums worldwide.

01:15And scored 11 number one hits.

01:19It was silenced.

01:28I've been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder.

01:32And I wasn't ready to say anything before.

01:35But I'm ready now.

01:36Last spring, the 56-year-old superstar canceled her tour

01:40and stopped singing publicly after being diagnosed with stiff person syndrome,

01:45an incurable illness that causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms.

01:49When your voice brings you joy, you're the best of yourself.

01:52I need my instrument.

01:56But will that instrument entertain the world again?
