00:00The opening ceremony for this year's Olympics in Paris has yet to take place, but France

00:06is already making more plans for six years' time, as it has been provisionally chosen

00:10to host the 2030 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

00:16The International Olympic Committee is honoured to announce that the 26th Winter Olympics

00:242030 have been awarded to the French Alps.

00:34An announcement which did not come as a surprise, as in November, the International Olympic

00:38Committee had already supported France's bid to host the Games over those of Switzerland

00:42and Sweden.

00:44Emmanuel Macron, welcome to the news.

00:47I would like to pay tribute to the great professionalism of the teams, Mr General Director, to their

00:52high standards and to what has been done to help us improve this bid.

00:56I know how attentive you are and will continue to improve things in the weeks and months

00:59to come, right through to 2030.

01:03Now the IOC says France must provide key financial guarantees in the months ahead.

01:08If it fulfils these, it will be the country's fourth time to host the Winter Games.
