Venezuela, Western media continue disinformation campaign against electoral process

00:00We go live now to Caracas. Our special envoy Brian Meir has the latest on the ongoings ahead

00:05of the July 28th presidential election in Venezuela. So a lot of things are going on.

00:10Pardon me. We couldn't hear you at the beginning.

00:30Well, a lot of things are going on in the Venezuelan election campaign,

00:36and one thing that's always important to pay attention to is the United States media.

00:41Today, there's a new article out in the Washington Post called

00:45Biden makes a big deal with the Latin American strongman. Will it pay off?

00:50And it details a one-sided look at the process that began with the Qatar meeting

00:57last October in 2023. During that meeting, the U.S. government negotiated a deal with

01:03the Maduro administration that if they hold free and fair elections this year,

01:09the United States will lift its 930 sanctions against Venezuela. But the way that the article

01:16is presented raises a lot of doubts if the United States will really accept a result

01:22that is not favorable to their candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez, who's supported by Maria

01:28Corina Machado. Now, Maria Corina Machado is someone who has a long history of ties to the

01:37United States government. An NGO she was affiliated with for years received over $3 million from NED,

01:44which is a CIA front group. And in the article, her candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez, is portrayed

01:51as a hero of democracy. They present one-sided, cherry-picked poll data to misinform the reader

02:00into believing that he's got a double-digit lead in the race, when actually the poll data is all

02:04over the board. An aggregate would not put the race anywhere near that. And they accuse Maduro

02:14of acting erratically by canceling his invitation for EU election observers to come and see the

02:22elections this July 28th to monitor the elections. Now, what really happened is that after the Qatar

02:28deal, the EU implemented 50 sanctions against Venezuelan citizens. They backed out of their

02:35part of the deal. And because of that, they're not invited to observe the elections, although

02:40many other groups are going to be here. The Carter Center, the UN has sent four election

02:46observers. And another thing that they fail to mention is why Maria Corina Machado

02:56has not been allowed to run this year. She got 4% in the primaries in 2012. Then in 2014,

03:04she accepted a diplomatic job from a foreign government. In this case, it was the government

03:09of Panama, so that she could testify at the Organization of American States to call for an

03:16invasion of her own country, which if it had happened, would have resulted in hundreds of

03:21thousands of deaths. This is why the electoral courts and the Superior Justice Court ruled that

03:26she's ineligible to run for public office in this country. So with all of the inaccurate and

03:32misleading framing in the Washington Post, it makes you want to question what their slogan is.

03:39Their official slogan is democracy dies in darkness. If they're casting darkness over what's

03:45really happening in this Venezuelan electoral process this year, are they trying to kill
