What exactly does neurodiversity mean?
00:05
According to the Cleveland Clinic, it's a word often used to explain the unique way
00:09
in which people's brains work.
00:11
Whilst no two brains are the same, it's thought that most people in the UK have a thing called
00:15
a neurotypical brain, wherein a brain functions in a similar way to those of their peers.
00:21
Now, research has revealed that more than 15% of people in the UK have what's referred
00:26
to as a neurodiverse brain.
00:28
The umbrella term of neurodiversity tends to include conditions such as autism, ADHD
00:33
and dyslexia, among a range of others.
00:36
Some even consider rare giftedness to come with a neurodiverse brain.
00:39
Now, it's important to consider that new research has shown major endemic discrimination against
00:44
neurodiverse people in the workplace.
00:47
With around 1 in 7 people in the UK thought to have a neurodiverse brain, some charities
00:51
are now calling on employers to recognise neurodiverse conditions and give more support
00:56
to employees.
