00:14it is the water that is the most dangerous.

00:17People envision storm surge as like this gently rising still water.

00:22Water comes up, it's inconvenient, and it goes back down.

00:26But it comes up much faster than most people can possibly comprehend.

00:32Storm surge is just one facet of the dangers of water.

00:35We're getting more people, unfortunately, to succumb to drowning from freshwater flooding,

00:40meaning traditional heavy rains and your roads and rivers swell and flood.

00:46Knowing when to evacuate and when to stay put will lessen your chances of becoming a victim of the water.

00:52People who are in the storm surge zone, you are the ones that when ordered to evacuate must go.

00:58If people do not heed the warnings ahead of time and people refuse to leave when asked to do so,

01:03they could still be in a very dangerous position.

01:06A dangerous position that is unnecessary if you don't need to leave your home.

01:11And if you're not in a storm surge evacuation zone, it is far better for you to stay put.
