00:00NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg meets with U.S. Defense Chief at the Pentagon, vows
00:07to strengthen support for Ukraine.
00:10A children's hospital was hit and at least 31 people have been killed in a Russian missile
00:17attack across Ukraine.
00:23Outgoing NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has met with U.S. Secretary of Defense Laird
00:50Osteen at the Pentagon.
00:52The meeting on Monday came as this week's three-day summit marking the 75th anniversary
00:57of the NATO alliance begins.
01:00Both defense chiefs vowed to further build upon continued progress amid unprecedented
01:06challenges as Russia continues its war in Ukraine.
01:10In Ukraine, Russia continues its brutal war.
01:14Only today we have seen horrendous missile attacks against Ukrainian cities, killing
01:21innocent civilians, including children.
01:24I condemn these heinous attacks.
01:28At the summit we'll make decisions to further strengthen our support to Ukraine and Russia
01:34must understand that they're not able to wait those out.
01:38They need to sit down and accept a solution where Ukraine prevails as a sovereignly independent
01:43nation.
01:44The summit is the last for Jens Stoltenberg, who will step down later this year after a
01:49decade in the role.
01:50While the NATO chief shows off some of his own achievements, Washington remains troubled.
01:55Concerns are mounting at home and abroad over a potential NATO's skeptic Trump presidency.
02:04At least 31 people have been killed in one of Russia's largest barrage of missile attacks
02:11over Ukraine in the past few months.
02:14The strike wounded more than 153 people and largely destroyed the main children's hospital
02:21in Kiev, which Ukrainian officials have defined as a war crime.
02:26Russia claims the damage to the hospital happened following a failure from a Ukrainian defense
02:32system, but Zelensky firmly rejects Moscow's allegations.
02:38If you heard the signals that it was a Ukrainian defense system, that it was a Ukrainian defense
02:46system, not their calculated strike, I'm grateful to all Ukrainians who started posting videos
02:54where you can see, specifically, not a part of this or that missile, but a direct missile
03:02strike that wounded and killed a lot of people in Ukraine today.
03:09Secretary-General strongly condemned today's missile attack by Russian ambassador to the
03:13UN Security Council emergency meeting, whilst the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General
03:20strongly condemned the attack.
03:23More than 14 missiles of different types, including hypersonic Kinzhals, reportedly
03:29hit apartment buildings and public infrastructure across five different cities.
03:39Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has arrived in Beijing on Monday in a surprise visit.
03:49His trip follows an unexpected visit to Russia last week, where he proposed that Ukraine
03:54should consider agreeing to an immediate ceasefire with Russia.
04:00Diplomatic sources say that Orban has caused concerns over deliberately displaying the
04:05logo of the EU rotating presidency in his communications, instead of making it clear
04:10that he is representing his own country.
04:17The Hungarian Prime Minister is widely seen as having a close relationship with Russian
04:21President Vladimir Putin.
04:24What we see is a strategic campaign to ridicule the European Union and to demonstrate that
04:33actually Prime Minister Orban can go on with all of these uncoordinated steps, which are
04:39clear violations of joint and agreed EU positions, and does not need to fear any negative consequences.
04:47He knows that with this, on the one hand, he also expands his future space to maneuver
04:57and future political autonomy, but also that seriously undermines the perception of the
05:05EU foreign policy among key partners.
05:09Experts say that despite Orban's efforts, they are unlikely to have any tangible impact
05:17on a peace deal between Russia and Ukraine.
05:22I think Prime Minister Orban is the only European head of state or government who is ready to
05:28talk to Mr Putin and actually violate the basic principle jointly established by EU member
05:34states, that there is no talk about Ukraine without Ukraine.
05:38So it's not the ability, it's just the readiness.
05:41I don't see any positive contribution of this sort of traveling diplomacy to the solution
05:49of the war in Ukraine, because that would require the involvement of all partners.
05:58European ambassadors will discuss Orban's recent visits in a meeting on Wednesday.
06:10France's legislative elections have resulted in a hung parliament, with the National Assembly
06:16divided into three distinct blocs.
06:19Although the leftist coalition, the New Popular Front, came out on top with 182 seats, it
06:26does not have an absolute majority.
06:29Therefore no clear figure has emerged as a possible prime minister.
06:34Voters are also divided on who should become prime minister, but some say coalition might
06:39be the way forward.
06:42There are ways to govern all together, because in the presidential camp there are a lot of
06:48people who are from the old left, the socialist left, a more traditional left.
06:53But Sylvain Maillard, former president of the Renaissance Group in the National Assembly,
06:58suggests it will take several weeks to form a majority.
07:01It will take time for us to have a programmatic basis.
07:05It's not the culture of France to build coalitions and alliances.
07:09So it will take a little longer.
07:11But when I look at our European partners, it will take several weeks.
07:15We are probably going to have several weeks of discussion.
07:26France faces potential political paralysis after none of the alliances won an absolute
07:31majority of 289 seats needed to form a government on Sunday.
07:37The big question now is who will govern France and what are some of the possible outcomes?
07:42Since the left-wing alliance, the New Popular Front or NFP, came first in the French legislative
07:48elections, they logically should nominate a prime minister.
07:52But there have been many internal squabbles within the coalition on who should lead the
07:57government.
07:58Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of the France Unbowed Party or LFE, has repeatedly stated
08:04that he is ready to take on the role.
08:25A minority government with less than 289 seats would also mean the left-wing coalition would
08:32have to live under the constant threat of a no-confidence vote from other parties.
08:37Emmanuel Macron could try to build a fragile coalition with moderates from the left and
08:42right-wing parties.
08:43But this option seems less probable after multiple party leaders from, for example,
08:48the France Unbound or from Macron's presidential camp have expressed outright opposition to
08:54forging certain alliances.
09:01Another option for Macron would be to appoint a technocratic government with ministers of
09:05no particular political affiliation to handle current affairs.
09:09However, some experts reject that this idea would be a bad idea.
09:13Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the leader of the France Unbowed Party or LFE, has repeatedly stated
09:17that he is ready to take on the role.
09:19Emmanuel Macron could try to build a fragile coalition with moderates from the left and
09:24right parties.
09:26However, some experts reject that this idea would be a bad idea.
09:56I mean, that's basically choice.
09:58So, there is no technocratic government, per se.
10:02We have certainly to dissipate this kind of illusion.
10:05The first session of the National Assembly will be held on July 18th.
10:13Almost 30 bears from the Transfagarasan mountain will be relocated to the Zarnesti sanctuary.
10:19The authorities' decision comes after a Euronews Romania report last week.
10:24Euronews Romania correspondent Maia Bondici reports.
10:45The Minister for the Environment told Euronews that he will issue a ministerial order or even
10:49change the legislation to solve the dangerous situation in the area.
10:55Together with the administrator of the National Road, Cinea Iru, we will probably be able to
11:03make people aware that bear feeding is forbidden, that bear feeding can be sanctioned with fines.
11:14It is worrying and, God forbid, an accident happens.
11:17Together with the Commission and the representatives of the institutions that are part of the Commission,
11:22we have reached the conclusion that bears should be relocated.
11:26Local authorities have identified 26 bears roaming the streets.
11:31Due to feeding by tourists, the bears are no longer used to foraging for themselves.
11:36The food offered by tourists on the streets seems to be their favorite.
