So the security's like, what is this guy doing?
00:02
Is he going to play?
00:03
What's he going to do?
00:04
Actually, my pre-show ritual is all about warming up,
00:14
being really ready to do a great show.
00:17
And I've recently been working with an amazing doctor.
00:20
One of the things we do is I warm up on a trampoline.
00:24
It's a vestibular system balancing.
00:28
It's your brain balancing.
00:29
And you warm up, and you fix your eye in one position.
00:32
And that tells my brain that it's all right to sing
00:36
and bounce around.
00:37
Because my brain was not like, used to always be
00:39
like, freaking out.
00:40
Like, it would send pain down to my legs to be like,
00:43
stop jumping around like a maniac.
00:45
I'd be like, but it's my job.
00:46
So I'd be arguing with my brain.
00:48
And as soon as I did that, my body started,
00:50
stopped having any of those issues.
00:52
Do that, and then I might run up and down,
00:54
because I love tennis.
00:55
So I might do tennis warm-ups up and down the corridor
00:58
so the security's like, what is this guy doing?
01:00
Is he going to play?
01:01
What's he going to do?
01:02
Oh, yeah, yeah.
01:03
Nothing like these overhead lights you have here.
01:05
Quite the opposite.
01:06
So I like it really dim, really nice candles, well-lit,
01:10
as in low-lit.
01:12
A range of drinks.
01:13
You can come in and have a drink and see us
01:15
and just be friendly.
01:17
And that's it.
01:18
It's pretty straightforward.
01:19
Well, the problem is with the snacks, right,
01:21
is that they, you know, if you could,
01:23
they put on the rider like a thing of M&Ms.
01:25
That means you're going to get M&Ms every single day
01:27
for two and a half months, these big bags.
01:29
But they used to do the deli trade.
01:31
That was the best trade, with the old raw onions
01:33
in the dressing room.
01:34
They'd be like, you're killing us here.
01:35
We're trying to have people talk about the dressing room
01:37
being cool.
01:38
Get the onions out of there.
01:39
They've got these raw onions.
01:40
But now since COVID, they sort of,
01:43
they realize that raw onions and processed meat
01:46
might not be good for you after four hours of sitting there.
01:49
Corey likes Cheez-Its, so there's different snacks.
01:52
But generally, it's nonsense, you know,
01:55
because whatever it is, you get bored of it.
01:57
My ideal after party is
02:02
people that I love, good lighting, and great hip hop.
02:05
Well, there's a certain amount of joy when I sing Come Down
02:08
because we closed the show with that.
02:10
So whenever I'm in that song, I'm like, ooh, you know what?
02:14
I'm going to be done soon, and we got through it
02:16
and think this went well or whatever.
02:18
So I can't help, but there's that great story
02:20
about Joe Perry, Steven Tyler, you know,
02:24
when they're at their most wasted-like start
02:26
and they're set with a song they used to end with
02:28
and they thought they'd go offstage.
02:30
They played this last song first
02:32
and they thought the show was done.
02:33
They go, no, no, you still got a show.
02:35
So there's something in that that we all feel that,
02:37
that when you play that finale song,
02:39
you hope you got through it and made a great show, you know?
02:42
So that stuff feels good to be like that.
02:45
Okay, that dressing room is coming soon.
02:47
Yeah, all the time.
02:49
I mean, it gets harder and harder to sneak backstage now.
02:51
We used to do those things where after the show,
02:53
I'd go out and sign for everyone,
02:55
and now it's a bit, slightly more cynical
02:57
because they do it where they do these fan experiences
03:00
where they can, you know, spend a little bit more money
03:03
and come and see us like that,
03:05
which I feel really a bit guilty about
03:07
because I'm like, I would do this out the back for free
03:09
just after the show, you know, and I will be there.
03:12
I should have gone yesterday.
03:14
There's a sweet homeless guy, and he's there,
03:16
and I walk past him, and he goes,
03:19
and he goes, you, hey, hey,
03:21
and then he was shouting my name all the way up the street.
03:23
And, you know, so running into people
03:25
is really fun to see the effect on people.
03:28
So when you see them at shows,
03:30
especially if they've seen the show,
03:32
they're usually quite taken with the show,
03:34
and so it's really, like, it's been in my life
03:36
where if I like someone or,
03:39
I went up to Frank Lampard,
03:41
who's a very famous English soccer player.
03:43
I saw him at Blue Bottle doing Lego with his son,
03:45
and I went up to him sort of respectfully at the end,
03:47
and I was like, you know, thank you for all these years.
03:49
I mean, I hate this football team,
03:51
but he was amazing, and I have to respect him.
03:54
And so going up to speak to him and say,
03:56
thank you, you know, for, so I get that.
03:59
People come up to me, and that interaction
04:01
just sort of means everything.
04:03
It kind of gives your life, not gives your life meaning,
04:06
but it means you get to see, experience who you've touched,
04:09
because often we don't know who's listened to our music.
04:12
You have a billion plays, but I don't,
04:14
I've never run into a billion people
04:16
that have bothered to listen to the song,
04:18
so it's really fun when you meet people that love the music.
