Edinburgh reacts to election result

We asked people in Leith what they thought of the 2024 General Election result, which saw Labour storm to victory across the UK and the SNP reduced to nine seats in Scotland.

00:00I think it's awful shame for the SNP, I think some have been disasters, but apart from that everything's OK.

00:07It's been very much Labour-dominant news and everything, and everyone's wanting to get rid of the Tories.

00:15I think they voted tactically when a lot of people would have voted SNP, but they voted Tories.

00:27Maybe they actually still are SNP, but they didn't vote Tory, they voted Labour to get the Tories out.

00:34So maybe the next one they'll vote back onto SNP.

00:40I voted for... I normally vote Green, but I voted for somebody else because their policies for carers were quite strong,

00:52and they were caring for themselves, so that was quite important to me, what they were saying.

00:58I think it was pretty obvious, everybody knew the Tories were going to lose.

01:05Because they've done a terrible job over the last five years.

01:11Too many Prime Ministers, and too much changes, and they never took the public, they treated them with a lot of disrespect.

01:25I voted SNP.

01:27So were you disappointed by some of the results this morning?

01:30No, I knew they were going to get beat, but I thought that they've tried their best.

01:34And I think that it's good for the youngsters, I think they gave them free bus passes and that.

01:41And I also think that they do well for the youngsters, they try their best, not having complete control, with the control being in Westminster.
