Conservative candidate Trevor Michael Hart says Labour have 'a lot to learn'

The Conservative hopeful said he is unsure on how the count will turn out.  Trevor Michael Hart laid out his policies when it comes to Preston, explaining how education and improving the state of the city centre is at the top of his priorities.

00:00Hi Trevor, how are we feeling tonight on Vote Countnight?

00:04I'm feeling OK. It's too early really to make any predictions.

00:10I've seen the exit polls, I've seen what the predictions are, but it's too soon really to tell that.

00:16And it's been an interesting campaign as well.

00:19Looking across all the different areas of Brexit, for us there's been some really strong areas

00:26as well as there's been areas where we clearly have got to do some work.

00:29So it's an early night yet, we've got a long way to go.

00:33We're looking for some positive outcomes, but we're realistic about what our options are and what the chances are.

00:41So I have no idea how the end result is going to be if I'm honest.

00:46But we're there to continue working to make a difference, but you never know.

00:52If you could just give a sentence or two to the people of Preston in terms of what your ideal policies are for the area.

01:03There's a number of things really. One of the big things I've talked about a lot is looking at the city centre.

01:10It needs life breathing into it. We've got too many shops which are closed down and a lot of work, a lot of money needs to go into it.

01:18But we need Preston City Council, Lancashire Council, working together on things.

01:22Because if you look around it, it feels as though it's dying on its head.

01:26Also education is one of the key areas that's really, really important to me.

01:31Providing a good education for the children.

01:34And there's been a lot of talk recently about the changes that Labour want to make with the tax on private schools.

01:41That's been a big, big issue. And I think they're missing a trick there really.

01:46I have to say I've never been a real fan of private schools.

01:49But the idea of actually taxing them heavily means that parents which have chosen to send their children there,

01:58but can't afford to, the state schools just have not got enough room to put them in.

02:03So that's a recipe for disaster. So that needs thinking through very carefully.

02:08And I think the Conservatives have got it right and Labour have got a lot to learn from that.
