Hi Trevor, how are we feeling tonight on Vote Countnight?
00:04
I'm feeling OK. It's too early really to make any predictions.
00:10
I've seen the exit polls, I've seen what the predictions are, but it's too soon really to tell that.
00:16
And it's been an interesting campaign as well.
00:19
Looking across all the different areas of Brexit, for us there's been some really strong areas
00:26
as well as there's been areas where we clearly have got to do some work.
00:29
So it's an early night yet, we've got a long way to go.
00:33
We're looking for some positive outcomes, but we're realistic about what our options are and what the chances are.
00:41
So I have no idea how the end result is going to be if I'm honest.
00:46
But we're there to continue working to make a difference, but you never know.
00:52
If you could just give a sentence or two to the people of Preston in terms of what your ideal policies are for the area.
01:03
There's a number of things really. One of the big things I've talked about a lot is looking at the city centre.
01:10
It needs life breathing into it. We've got too many shops which are closed down and a lot of work, a lot of money needs to go into it.
01:18
But we need Preston City Council, Lancashire Council, working together on things.
01:22
Because if you look around it, it feels as though it's dying on its head.
01:26
Also education is one of the key areas that's really, really important to me.
01:31
Providing a good education for the children.
01:34
And there's been a lot of talk recently about the changes that Labour want to make with the tax on private schools.
01:41
That's been a big, big issue. And I think they're missing a trick there really.
01:46
I have to say I've never been a real fan of private schools.
01:49
But the idea of actually taxing them heavily means that parents which have chosen to send their children there,
01:58
but can't afford to, the state schools just have not got enough room to put them in.
02:03
So that's a recipe for disaster. So that needs thinking through very carefully.
02:08
And I think the Conservatives have got it right and Labour have got a lot to learn from that.
02:12
Thank you very much Steve.
