I'm Conway Gittins reporting from the New York Stock Exchange, here's what we're watching
00:03
on the street today.
00:05
Investors are digesting another round of quarterly results, this time from Nike, Micron, Walgreens
00:10
and Levi Strauss.
00:11
This is the final trickle of first quarter results ahead of the start of the second quarter
00:15
reporting season.
00:17
On the economic front, weekly jobless claims fell for the second straight week, but in
00:22
a sign it's taking longer to find a job, the number of Americans receiving unemployment
00:26
benefits beyond the first week surged to a two and a half year high.
00:31
Investors now eagerly await Friday's PCE inflation data.
00:35
In other news, despite what it may promise on the bottle, taking a daily multivitamin
00:39
doesn't actually help add years to your life.
00:42
A recent study by the National Institutes of Health, quote, did not find evidence to
00:47
support improved longevity among healthy adults who regularly take multivitamins.
00:52
In fact, the study found that taking a daily multivitamin supplement boosted the chance
00:57
of death by four percent.
00:59
The 20 year study published in the Journal of American Medical Association involved nearly
01:03
400,000 people without major health issues.
01:06
The median age of participants was 61 and a half.
01:09
This won't be welcome news for the one in three Americans who take daily multivitamin
01:14
supplements.
01:15
Sales of those supplements are estimated to bring in $45 billion to manufacturers in 2024.
01:22
That'll do it for your daily briefing from the New York Stock Exchange.
01:25
I'm Conway Giddens with the Street.
