00:00Well, you know, to see all this water is kind of a tragic situation because I have friends
00:25that live on the beach side of the island and I'd like to check on them and have been
00:30able to.
00:32Hopefully they're okay and we're going to see a new day and today is a day that we can
00:39start cleaning up and hopefully the water will recede quickly by this evening or tomorrow
00:46for sure and we'll be able to recover.
00:50Can we afford to recover?
00:51Can we afford to repair our homes?
00:55Some people may not be able to afford to clean up their yard.
01:00This day and age, we don't know how people are living, you know, day by day, from day
01:06to day, paycheck to paycheck.
01:09So we all will lend a hand and work together to recover.
01:18I've only been here a little over a year, so yes, this is my first storm and I was surprised.
01:23I wasn't expecting it, especially when you look out and your whole yard is covered in
01:27water and there's water under your house.
01:28I was a little surprised, but it drained.
01:31Well, I mean, the biggest concern we have is the beach getting more erosion.
01:35We've been waiting for some groynes to be put in for, I don't know, it seems like 10
01:40to 15 years now.
01:41And so if we don't have a beach, we really don't have anything here.
01:45The people come down to go to the beach.
01:46So if we have no beach, it erodes so much, you know, all these businesses and pretty
01:51much vacation houses won't be here, you know.
01:53So yeah, the storms are impactful as far as like, you know, we don't want them to damage
01:57the island.
01:58We already have, our infrastructure is not the greatest.
02:00So it kind of hinders that too.
02:13We were just saying when we got in today that this actually feels really nice.
02:17Atlanta, like Atlanta just feels worse just from the past like two weeks.
02:22So yeah, it feels kind of nice, but it's still a little hot and muggy.
02:29I'm lucky I can come here and cool off.
02:31Perfect.
02:32Or in the fountain and bathe.
02:34One or the other.
02:36We're cooling off here.
02:37This is a cooling center and I'm just cooling off here right now, working with Tate.
02:43Well, it's hot out there, as you might well imagine.
02:47I was raised on a small farm in Georgia, so I'm used to heat.
02:52But the combination of the heat and I don't know how to describe it.
02:56I got bad dehydrated last night, badly.
02:59And when I got up this morning, I realized I was in trouble, so I went downstairs from
03:03my new home over on West, excuse me, East 47th Street off of 3rd and I got me some water
03:09immediately.
03:10I had about three pretty good sized glasses of it and I'm more or less back to normal.
03:14You can die in this damned heat.
