00:10Arrears increased after living costs rose and Leeds City Council faced difficulties

00:18Figures released via a Freedom of Information request show the total outstanding was £90.8
00:23million at the end of 2023-2024.
00:28An increase in arrears over the last decade saw the total rise from around £37.8 million
00:34at the end of 2014-15.
00:36The council has said its record on council tax collection compared well to other cities
00:41and it's helping struggling households by giving them more time to make payments.
00:46The council are aiming to recover 99% of all council tax billed for this year and they
00:51are encouraging residents to reach out for advice and support should they be facing financial
