Pro-Palestine protesters rally in Bukit Bintang to show solidarity

00:17This was the second rally organised at the same location

00:20by Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions, BDS Malaysia.

00:24The event began at 8pm near a fast food outlet

00:28and proceeded around the shopping centres in the area.

00:33BDS Malaysia's Secretary General Farwina Farok

00:36said the rally was organised to amplify support for Palestinians.

00:42Palestinians, they told me, because I have many friends from Palestine

00:46in Gaza right now, they say that what keeps them going

00:49is us, the crowd, showing solidarity with them.

00:54So we are doing something, we are giving them strength.

00:57As a consumer we can boycott strategically

00:59because we are from Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement.

01:01They need to divest themselves from companies

01:03that are involved with Israel, involved with the genocide

01:07and involved with the occupation of Palestine.

01:10Another protester, Putri Nourshahira,

01:13said this was her fourth rally in support of Palestinian solidarity.

01:17The 25-year-old emphasised the importance of public demonstrations,

01:22noting that even small actions can significantly impact the cause.

01:26I'm a big fan of fast food and all that, but I stopped.

01:31Because that's all I can do.

01:32Because I can't do anything else.

01:34That's all I can do.

01:35My message is to speak up for the people of Palestine,

01:39pray for them and join protests like this.

01:41The rally also saw participation from many foreigners

01:45who wore keffiyeh, a traditional Palestinian scarf,

01:48to show their solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
